i think non-fans would argue: when lebron signed here and then brought AD with him.

but no, we've had some very bad luck since then! and aside from russ, a lot of it has been pure bad luck.

i didn't get that, either. early in camp, it felt like he was going to maybe start. within weeks, he was buried.

So we'll have basically no feel for Bamba after this season and his $10.3 million is non-guaranteed next year. I think its fair to question whether we'll see him in a Laker uniform again. I for one hope we hang onto him and see if our staff can work some magic.

I had no idea his contract was non-guaranteed. But yeah just looked into it and apparently that’s the case: “No money guaranteed in 2023/24, HoopsHype has learned. Guarantee increases to full if not waived by June 29, 2023.”

I’ve seen enough from him in this small sample size to make me want to keep him. He’s not great and has plenty of flaws, but I just like the idea of a backup center who can shoot 3’s and block some shots. I’m okay with continuing to take a flyer on him next year, at which point he should still be easily tradeable as an expiring contract if he struggles.

But since his contract is non-guaranteed for next year, that means he could become a solid trade chip this summer (before June 29th). For a team looking for some extra cap room, we could instantly provide it. Trade Bamba’s $10 million for another team’s longer term contract, and then that team cuts Bamba so they’re off the hook. I think that’s legal right?

I’d be fine with that approach, but I would be pretty annoyed if WE waived him simply because we weren’t sure he was good enough and wanted to penny pinch. The cap relief we’d get from doing that would offer zero advantage to us

If you go to the toilet faster, you can buy more overpriced snacks in the long snack lines and still get back to your seat to see the game.

might be semi genius from a revenue standpoint. The ROI on additional toilets will be like 3 games lol

$10 million of Jeanie’s money? Hell yeah

Absolutely. Scary stuff… but right now in its infancy, I’m just going to enjoy the ride for the lulz. Was watching a video of Obama, Biden, and Trump arguing over a ranking of all the Zelda games and it was pure comedic gold

one issue-i thought the nba closed that loophole may making NG amounts the amount in trade. basically meaning the only way to trade bamba (since he has nothing guaranteed) is to guarantee his deal first.

anyway, i keep him. you can't approximate his value with what we'll have in FA (javale mcgee got three years 20 million last year and is already nailed to the bench forever).

if we let him or beasley walk to save money, it will be a very, very bad look, as we can't replace either via FA, and we need our exceptions to try to add to the team or simply retain minimum guys we like.

then again, the last time we had the ability to simply pay market value for players, we let caruso walk. so i'm pretty terrified still.

Yeah, the only benefit of trading him would be to add player value to a trade while staying at a price point (trading for someone still on their rookie deal). OR for a team looking to shed $10m or so in longer term money but for that to work, we'd have to reach a threshold of where trading the $10m is covered in the 125% trade salary allotment (ie. trading Bron or AD).

I’m hoping the front office realizes continuity is the only aspect of a winning team that we have control over since injuries and LeBron’s age are what they are.

i want everyone currently on the roster back, tbh. just roll with them all except walker (not because i don't like him but because he's just not going to be necessary).

bamba and beasley's contracts can be traded if things don't work out, but on paper, we've got a deep, talented, young (aside from lebron) team.

the only real question i'd have is if rui got a big offer from somewhere. i just don't see that happening. i feel like he can be locked up near his current salary, tbh.

that said, this is what that could look like:

    upload_2023-3-10_12-58-22.png

    *jeanie faints*

that's still below the clips and warriors this year, but it's a big amount and 15 more than current, with repeater being tacked on.

we could always let one of troy or schroder walk (remember the other has to be replaced by a vet min).

we could also see if beasley would be interested in a longer deal at lower money.

finally, we could just let rui walk and/or trade him into space/exception for future 2nds or something on draft night.

i actually think the last one is most likely, tbh. don't love it. i mean, the organization did promise lebron....
