overall, reading that makes me think paul george really should have just joined lebron in FA. he's obviously not very sharp.

and while this was clearly a piece that was planted to put positive spin on the acquisition, no real points were made. and that's troubling. ohm's the clips' media puppet, and they couldn't supply him with much at all here. great, terrence mann's a sf. so what are george, kawhi, powell, batum, etc.? which one of those do you sit so that russ can run the offense?

What is the story with George anyway?
He pushed himself out of Indiana - a team with good management.
It couldn't have been a small market as he ended up in OKC and chose to stay there after losing in the first round
He played pretty well for them and they got rocked by a mediocre Portland team and Dame going off on Brick. So pretty much went like the way it was expected

Then for all his loyalty to OKC/Brick, Brick was looking to escape of all things and then George took the opportunity to leave.

I mean in a totally plausible imaginary world, he signs with the Lakers. They have all the assets to get AD and you're looking at AD/Bron/PG with caruso, kuzma, kcp, rondo, dwight, and javale. That is a pretty damn good basketball situation

clippers would've been better off keeping SGA instead of trading for PG

agree with all except indy's well-managed. pritchard shouldn't have gotten another gig after portland, imo. he's one of those who's not concerned with the rights things, and he's why i never felt like any indy deal was realistic despite people saying it was at the 1 yard line and all that.

anyway, yeah, george has just made a lot of bad decisions, and the quote about needing this and then him sort of realizing mid-sentence that he just brought john wall back. the paragraph on why russ fits better there is "they have more shooters" but then they name plumlee as a floor spacer (screen-setter, yes, floor spacer...no), and then i think paul george tries to imply the lakers were too old around westbrook? does he still think it's last year? that the lakers don't run enough? we play at the second-fastest pace in the league this year. the clippers play at the 24th.

it's like he's watched neither his own team nor the lakers nor westbrook.

the real (unintentional) insight comes from marcus morris:

so...russ fits better here because nobody gives a s*** about the clippers and they won't notice his poor play as much. ok. well, you just noticed john wall's and ran him out on a rail. westbrook has basically played just like john wall for two years. and you think the media is going to what? blame kawhi when the clippers fail? are you kidding? AD is mr. glass while kawhi sits out the bulk of every year with mystery injuries. that guy's teflon. tyronn lue somehow has god status as a coach despite underachieving with the clips for years, so it's not going to be him, either.

honestly, the main reason russ is safer there (aside from your point that nobody cares about you) is that the media so desperately wants to stick it to lakers that they'll overlook westbrook's shortcomings and churn out puff pieces about how lue has gotten him to buy in and let him be himself and whatever, no matter what is actually occurring.

I honestly think this will go south on the Clippers and it might not take very long.

I think Lue is a solid coach but there's just certain basics you can't scheme around and he's about to quickly learn that lesson. And I think players get caught up in what Russ was and look at his stats without really paying attention to what is actually happening on the floor.

That's pretty wild to me as the coaches have certainly watched the film and the players should have too. I don't understand how you can watch that and really talk yourself into it working.

Honestly, bringing Russ in is just hubris to me from that organization. They will learn soon enough.

oh, btw, my lue rants aren't suggesting he's a bad coach--they're suggesting he doesn't deserve the reputation of a great coach, but he somehow has it.

i think hubris is the right term. you have to wonder what lawrence frank is thinking right now, though. i mean, he's on the record saying they wanted, very specifically, the anti-russell westbrook at pg. this was just a couple weeks ago.

    what happened? i'm genuinely curious.

speaking of hubris. we'll see about all that, matt.

at least ballmer's got some company now.

you think that's it? i wonder if lue had input. if they're letting paul george and marcus morris dictate moves...wow...
