Optimism Discussion: The Laker's Sky Is Not Falling

We beat GSW on their court playing a pickup game, basically. I am so pleased with this team and the depth now. Literally, everyone has a role and everyone can play.

 

These trades totally changed the team, we lose this game no question as we were before the Russ trade. DLo is composed, Vanderbilt is all hustle, and you know Beasley will come around, it was their first game here. Defense looks better already, offense looks fine but will look better with more time together. Mainly I liked the energy and confidence I saw out there, the new guys came in and just fit in yet weren’t deferring to anyone. Most of all I’d say the bench is way improved, guys sliding down to where they belong. I know Kyrie is a star, but I just like this route better, trading all we had for him wasn’t going to fix this, we’d have gotten worse defensively and still had no depth or shooting.

I didn’t want to acquire more than 3 new players getting minutes every game for continuity reasons to try to sneak into the playoffs. But I can’t deny whatever the outcome of this season, we set ourselves up in an excellent position for years to come with these trades.

I think we now have a core where we can move pieces around the margins and still compete for championships. Younger, bigger, and more skilled than any team we’ve had since the bubble.

 

That was an excellent, hard fought win for this new young team. I loved it. It's thrilling to see this many offensive weapons taking turns in the fourth and some very solid defense as well. Vandy impressed with his high energy play. Dlo was so smooth in the fourth and down the stretch. Rui making some big shots. Shrewd dude getting it done. Same with Reaves. Anthony Davis with the boards and blocks. Exciting! So much better than what we started with this season. Night and day really.
