The worst thing Rob could do is just hang onto Westbrook’s expiring, because we could take back $50 million in usable players if we trade Westbrook for something.

If we hang onto him and let him expire, we only have about $30 mil in cap space this summer to build a team… plus the disadvantage that we still have Westbrook on this team for the rest of the season.

What if we sit leBron and don’t let him get the scoring record unless it’s in another uniform?

how much would a team give us to have him on the roster for the record?

I’m not so quietly hoping for FVV and Trent.

paul and harden did just fine in houston until the ego clash. i'm guessing same here. off court, these guys don't mix, but on the court, good luck stopping that offense, even if it's wholly uncreative.

as for the latter, i'm guessing dallas looked at it as if it fails, they have max cap space. they didn't before. in our case, we have the same amount of cap space whether we trade or not. just different situations. we probably tried to peddle russ and our other 1st for something better than dinwiddie/DFS and came up with nothing. which would jive with every report about us trying to deal russ since this time last year.

Worst part of this is still being stuck with Brick.

I assume this was a big selling point for Kyrie

Pretty sure if LeBron was the GM like many claim, we’d have Kyrie and not two future picks.

OK, I'll give you that. Basically, he's probably doing something, but it won't turn into anything.

One thing I don't quite understand about the Mavs is.... why didn't they keep Brunson in the first place? 23/6/3, shooting over 40% from 3, and is 26 years old.

they tried to, but the relationship was broken. his dad's back door connection to ny was sort of huge here, too. but the mavs did have a chance to extend him at a bargain rate and declined. problem is, it was for good reason. at the time brunson hadn't shown he was more than a solid backup pg, so 4/50 was maybe a bit steep given where they were in the standings, etc. he blew up the rest of that season, the knicks hired his dad, and there it was. still, though, they could have thrown full max at him and probably made him think twice but didn't.

i actually don't get the mavs moving dinwiddie and DFS for kyrie, though. i figured those would be the two they'd want to protect in trade talks.

    yes.
I think it would have taken a 3rd team. Nets wanted to compete this year, and got two nice pieces back from Dallas, which we can't offer.

fwiw, dallas fans are more angry they got kyrie than we are that we didn't.

Well, we tried. Dallas had the better trade package and that’s pretty much it. Back to the drawing board. We still need a move to compete, let alone contend.

Overall, the Nets probably won this trade. Barely, but maybe it's better for them to get rid of Kyrie.

    Stein stuff

Tsai didn't want to send Kyrie where he wanted to go -- LA
Stein thought we'd get a 3 team deal done with Nets and Spurs
