Jim is right. Rui is a starting caliber player, unlike some of our "starters".

I thought that we traded for him to be a starter in the first place?

indy playing smaller than we do. not surprising, as carlisle did that a lot in dallas. we need to try to punish them on the boards, though.

I missed the first quarter so maybe he did something bad?
In the game thread everyone was wondering why they didn't put him on BI like at all for most of the game (I though BI didn't score in the 1st quarter so it couldn't have been something I missed then I figured).

Just f***ed up: they put Bev on him when Bev is much better suited to guard CJ and then you could put rui on BI or double him

He missed some shots but was a +2 and I don't think I saw anything as dumb as that Wenyen TO or getting beat on the offensive glass by other dudes.

He missed some shots at the rim after getting his own rebound but I didn't see anything bad. The clown Ham had Bev on Ingram.

he couldn't have guarded ingram, who only didn't have 50 because he got in early foul trouble.

ingram wanted to show out against us; it was pretty obvious. i actually thought we did a good job keeping mccollum at bay and figured ingram couldn't outscore us himself. but he basically did.

I don't understand this? Why wouldn't you at least try Rui on Ingram? BI is quick but not explosive and he uses his length: would make sense to put Rui who is longer than Brown and for sure BI.

Or the real interesting one would have been to put Rui on Nance and have AD on Ingram

Again IMO just any lack of creativity or understanding your personnel IMO

Tunnel Vision / Hold My Beer / Midget Ball Ham. How bout at least earlier in the game seeing if Christie or even JTA maybe could give some good D and make a few plays? WTF is he afraid of!!?? They’ve basically played well enough to check them out for a little burn on matchups each game, Max isn’t even playing like a rookie.

ingram's first step is incredibly quick. instead of pull up jumpers, he'd have either lived at the line or they'd have had a dump-off dunk fest. i don't get why people thought rui was going to be a wing stopper. i see none of that.

now, AD on ingram is interesting. he'd still get a step on him, but AD can close, and if ingram dumps off, you have AD running full steam to where the shot attempt is going to be.

but i think ham perfectly understood that rui would have been barbecued chicken.

SMH..the only game I haven't watched live this season and we blow it. I have to watch the game, but if we had Bev and Troy on Brandon, I can understand him getting off. BI is a matchup problem, he's long and prefers to operate in the midrange..tough cover.

Not sure about this: Ingram doesn't like getting bodied up from what I've seen thru the years and they didn't have JV back there as a lob threat. Make him prove it and change the look. What I know wouldn't work was putting Bev on him and that took away your ability to let Bev handle CJ w/o extra attention.

I don't get AT ALL why Rui only played 18 minutes in a matchup the opponent played 3 wings significant minutes regardless of his ability to defend BI or not

i'm trying to erase the game from my mind, but didn't we try wenyen (better perimeter defender than rui, imo) on him for a couple possessions, and he got burned? i know we tried russ, who's actually played big wings pretty well in isolation (which was all NO was doing with ingram, pretty much). and he got roasted so bad he almost spun around once.

it wasn't about personnel, it was about scheme, imo. we needed to make anyone not named ingram or mccollum create an offensive opportunity for them, like teams do to us regularly and to decent effect.

yeah, i don't get this one, either. while i'm firmly in the "no way he affects ingram in any way as a primary defender" camp, i also wonder why he didn't get more burn out there in general. maybe he secures a board one of the smalls can't or knocks down a midrange shot when we need anything to go, etc. he's clearly one of our most useful players already, and i don't think our losing the lead was on him in any way.
