guessing they'd ask for both. they'd be doing us one big favor in that our tax bill would be substantially lowered. poeltl by himself is probably worth a top-10 protected 1st.

i wanted this deal in august, but i'm not as sure i want it now.

I think we discussed it but I can't remember the rationale. Why do you think Poeltl fits AD and LeBron? And why would you send a pick to get him?

i think AD can play with a big man--even one who can't shoot (especially if russ is gone)--and has proven that plenty of times in his career. and i think poeltl is sneaky good. we could go back to being a huge defensive team like the one that got a ring. mcbuckets can shoot, and richardson's just an end of bench utility guy. both are expiring next year and could be used along with picks for upgrades (like the clippers do annually).

i don't think we do it because i really think we're banking on russ either leaving or taking a huge paycut so that our tax bill goes down a lot next year (as opposed to a little bit this year, which is what this deal would do).

we also don't do it because i think ham is hellbent on the 4-out, which requires AD at the 5 or a really good three point shooting 5 (definitely not poeltl).

He'll be looking for a role somewhere. We can only offer him split minutes with TB, so no. My guess is he would go to Clippers or C Bags, both are actively looking for bigs.

mavs' frontcourt has been decimated by injury and poor FA decisions (mcgee, ouch), so i could see them offering him big minutes, a starting role, and probably 15ppg from luka spoonfeeds.

With the way Ham coaches, Rui trade, Reaves development, Walker surprising, Max development particularly the 3 pt shot feel like they need to make another move for sure.

Moving on from either Russ/Bevs or frankly both would make this roster make sense in terms of skillsets and size

    Schroeder/Reaves
    Walker/Christie
    Rui/Brown

Makes a lot of sense to me when you look at how things have shook out - AD/Lebron look great, Bryant is the backup C with Gabriel as needed.

Yup. It was driving me crazy last night to see the Schroeder + Russ + Bev lineups to close each half with Rui, Brown and Christie all on the bench. We do not have to play small anymore. Seeing the Schroeder/Christie/LeBron/Rui/AD lineup for those couple of stretches last night was so refreshing, we actually played a lineup with legit NBA size! I'm afraid that Ham will keep relying on Bev unless he's traded. Same with Russ, the chaos he brings to the game was helpful when we were outmanned due to injuries, but now that guys are coming back I really don't think we need him. If you have Schroeder and Walker on the court with AD while LeBron is resting, and Reaves on the court with LeBron while Schroeder is out, I think that's enough ballhandling.

Side note - Christie is going to be a solid player for us. Between him and Reaves we could be solid at SG for the foreseeable future. Makes me think that Lonnie will not be a priority to resign, so maybe he's included in a Bev or Russ trade.

Would Wenyan have any chance of slowing down or making work any harder the good to really good big wings? Even the 6 fouls to give aspect?

Not sure if I've seen this exact permutation, but Russ/Jones/2027 FRP unprotected or very lightly protected for Bojan/Burks/Bagley?

    Schroeder/Reaves/Bev
    Walker IV/Burks/Christie
    LeBron/Brown Jr./JTA
    Hachimura/Bogdanovic/Gabriel
    AD/Bryant/Bagley

Bagley seems redundant with Bryant, but I doubt they're retaining Bryant after this season and I like having all three of Bryant, Bagley and Gabriel if AD misses more time. Bagley is still just 23, similar to Hachimura why not give Handy and our development staff an opportunity to work with him. At the very least, he's at $12.5 million per year through 2025 so we could trade him for someone else's better-fitting misfit toy if it doesn't work out. Plenty of depth at the guard spots and we'd have the team option on Burks for next year in case Christie isn't quite ready to step in as a regular rotation guy. Plenty of depth at the guard spots and LeBron/Hachimura/Bojan can soak up all the forward minutes. Would be interesting to see whether Hachimura or Bojan started/finished games, I'd probably start Bojan and bring in Hachimura when AD is out to maintain decent size.

i think one of reaves/christie/walker is going to be gone before the deadline. if it's one of reaves/christie, it will be in lieu of a second 1st round pick in an upgrade trade. if it's walker, he's going to be slightly more attractive than nunn as the bev rider and might help us protect the pick that goes out (or keep the 1sts entirely in the case of a more lateral move).

I'll tell you this: if we had Reaves, Max, Rui and even decided to retain Bryant (who knows if that will even be possible), I'd be excited about the prospect of watching these young guys develop. Bron will retire, AD will be our main star (and we'll always worry about him getting injured), and maybe another younger star joins. But these young role-players... I kind of miss that aspect of our team. I am a little tired of the mercenary roller-coaster. How about attracting stars (we're the Lakers after all), but building some real continuity and team chemistry for change?

I understand some guys will have to go, of course, in order to have more balanced team. Right now, it seems that the odd man out might be Lonnie. We'll see.
