Yeah it's the Clippers so nobody cares but only 3 playoffs series wins in 3 seasons with such expensive and near perfect fitted rosters for today's NBA is a HUGE failure
yeah, and lue's iso-ball is genius. use my expensive roster to find the mismatch. exploit the mismatch. i mean, until you have to play the good teams in the playoffs... the barely over .500 clippers have the most expensive and talented roster in the business, the greatest coach in nba history, and nothing to show for it.
yeah their main weakness is their 2 best players aren't great playmakers , good defensive teams will expose it ... if Kawhi and PG13 play in the postseason which is a huge if
Yep. If PG1.3 is your point guard in the playoffs, you're not going to win. I hope they don't get Conley, if healthy enough for a playoff series, he'd be a good floor general for them.
Clips are 10-0 against us over the last 10. Sucks. BUT: just flush it. The Tenants played ridiculously well (esp shooting), and save for the Old Man and Wenyan, we didn't show up. Flush it and move on. They're not that good and we're not that bad. It's Jan 25th. Let's see where both teams are on Feb 25th.
the problem is that its the same exact story every time the two teams play clippers entire roster turns into steph curry while the lakers put up brick after brick and don't show up. how do you lose 10 in a row against the same team? and it's not like they've had kawhi and PG in all those games either
their coach, players, management/ownership all are hellbent on beating us because they're the little brother. watch them play their next game and see if norman powell looks like larry bird. see how many games they play kawhi and PG 36 minutes each in the regular season. it's sorta sad, imo. congrats, i guess. you've definitely succeeded in owning the laker fanbase, but you're still ringless and nobody cares about you.
I give the Clips credit for sponsoring all the outdoor basketball courts and youth teams. If the Lakers don't continue to be the Yankees of basketball they have a better chance at capturing some of the younger fans and getting a fan base
oh, they're kicking our a**** in every respect, from a strategy/marketing/business standpoint. but ballmer should have moved them out of the city and then outshone us. i don't think they can take over the spot in town. hubris. but they could have re-done the sonics and built a dynasty out of our shadow.
Caught my attention last night on those particular jerseys at least they don’t say Clippers on the front, just Los Angeles.
ballmer's made it clear that his goal is for the clippers to overtake the lakers as LA's favorite team will that ever happen? of course not, but what's he supposed to say? that he knows LA will always be a lakers town and that he hopes people pay attention to the clippers? he is the owner after all i'm sure he's completely happy just with them getting their own arena and getting out of the lakers shadow (literally)
He gets uglier and more cartoonish looking the older he gets spazzing out courtside when the camera catches him after a good play.
yeah, i don't follow baseball as closely, but the clippers seem to have an angels problem, right? even if they're better for a period, it's not going to be enough. it takes a long time to build these things. anyway, i think he actually believes they're going to overtake us completely. that's the mindset of this kind of person. but it cuts both ways. my bet is he'd been better off starting a new game--fully rebranding the clippers (move to SD, call them something else, etc.)--rather than trying to simply reverse the tables. but i sort of admire that he took the bigger challenge. i want him to fail there, and i think that's likely, though we are helping him out a bit by not competing from a spending standpoint...
i wouldn't consider the angels to be an LA team. they've always been OC's team, while the clippers are indeed an LA team. a better comparison would probably be the yankees and mets, although the latter has a very loyal and sizeable fanbase in queens. but at the end of the day, the yankees will always be the more popular and successful team in NYC the clippers certainly don't have a sizeable fanbase and they've never had any sort of success like the mets have, but that's probably the best comparison with lakers/clippers. and i wouldn't be surprised if ballmer seriously thinks the clips can overtake the lakers in popularity. i would guess that quite a few kids in LA who first started watching basketball a decade ago are probably clippers fans because the clippers have been a playoff team during that entire time while the lakers have only had one successful season. not to mention the fact that the clippers always beat the lakers in the regular season. LA will always be a lakers town, but the clippers popularity in LA has certainly jumped quite a bit over the last decade
Microsoft stock jumped when stepped down as CEO - it was a company about to be eaten by Google/FB/Amazon and after he leaves it's a juggernaut again. I think it's bad for the league and himself reputationally that he didn't bring back the Sonics to Seattle - that would have been a great story. But if he wants to live in LA - he should have moved the team - he's not young and he seems to enjoy eating so he just not going to have the time to see something like the come to the fruition (has it ever happened in sports? I guess the english premier league is the closest case with all the London clubs but with duos Real Madrid is better Atletico, AC Milan is still considered the Milan clud over inter, Yankees over Mets, Knicks over Nets, Dodgers over Angels, Giants over Jets). Manchester City has clearly been better than Manchester United last 5 years or so but man when United is good it just seems different)
Gotta imagine Ballmer’s number crunchers told him the franchise was more valuable in LA than Seattle even if they are second to the Lakers.
