What I’m saying is that 2 of our picks are worth 3 of let’s say Milwaukee’s. And OG isn’t a star. He is a star role player. Last year he could have been had for a first. Maybe he goes for 2 and a young player? Or taking some bad money back.

But if the raptors blow it up, they’ll get rid of everyone but Barnes and Siakam in my opinion.

Average down time is 5 1/2 years for a Laker rebuild. If AD - LBJ era is over in 2 years (after this summer) both our FRPs are likely to be great. Any future-minded GM is going to value our picks.

6 Years '73-'79 (then drafted Magic)

5 years '91-'96 (then signed Shaq, traded for Kobe)

4 years '04-'08 (then traded for Pau)

7 years '12-'19 (then traded for AD)

Again, things are different this year, see the Gobert trade. I love OG and he’d be ideal but good luck getting him from Toronto. As I said they are reported buyers in this market.

feel like gobert is a huge cautionary tale, tbh. people are saying it set the market, but it may be what re-sets the market. nobody wants to be in minny's shoes.

For those wanting OG, it's 3 and a swap. They want the Murray deal.

I definitely hope it resets the market.

Seems legit if you're Toronto but I think Dejounte has a much bigger ceiling
Absolutely. Everyone is like "now the price for this scrub is 2FRPs and a swap because Gobert" when actually, if anything z that trade proved that if you overpay without considering the fit and the possibility of going wrong, your set for doom. Wolves will suck the whole decade because of 1 trade when they were actually in an interesting path.
At least we only sucked for 2 years with our bad trade
Thanks for your rationale, good talk. I disagree but each one should have their opinions, especially when they are well explained.

My only question for you is: what is the ceiling of the team you perceive to achieve with that Bojan trade for the next 2 to 3 years?

Yep. That's what I thought as well. OG would be ideal but is altogether unattainable for us. Do the Bogdanovic deal and let's win some games. It cleans up the imbalanced roster, adds an elite sniper who could fit right in, and gives us a great shot when AD, Reaves and Walker get back. We need this guy. One pick is not crazy.

Very fair. To me Bojan is a solid rotation player with an elite skillset who helps you contend. We still need to make other roster moves going forward but I think that's kind of a given with Russ either getting moved at the deadline, resigned cheaper next year or last option - letting him expire (I'm not a fan of that concept). Ceiling to me realistically is probably WCF with Bojan and no other moves this year. The West doesn't really frighten me as we seem to have a good handle on Denver if AD is healthy. Punchers chance for a title. 2 -3 years I don't know, because other moves need to be made.

Timing is very important to me though. If you look at our upcoming games before the deadline we have 12 total, 9 against teams over .500 - some of them against the very top tier: Memphis, C Bags, Nets, Bucks, and NO, plus Sacto who plays us well, and many of these games are on a very tough Eastern road trip. Only 3 against sub .500 teams. We need the help NOW. Not at the deadline. We could be almost out of commission by then without any roster improvement and AD, AR and Walker's status up in the air.

i can definitely see the other side of the bojan debate. but i'm still on the "no unprotected 1st" side. top-10 protected that turns into 2 2nds, i'm in.

very curious to read all the post-mortems in february. the summer's were really interesting and made me feel better about not doing anything.

Austin and Lonnie should be back this week, their two weeks is up tomorrow. AD should be back by the end of next week, if he's been running pain free for the last week or so, he's about ready to play.

I continue to pan this idea that we need AD and Reaves and Walker, and a trade just to make the playoffs. That's crazy, we are a game and a half out of the 7th slot as is.

Oh, thank god. Can we trade Bev, Nunn and Jones now and get some real help on the perimeter? I'd honestly be willing to trade one of those picks for a legitimate player now.

3 picks for OG is ridiculous. Murray is a much better player and has a higher value around the league.

I think fair value for OG would be 1 unprotected 1st and 1 heavily protected

I'd be very happy with Bev/Nunn/FRP for Bojan IF we also did Russ/FRP for something else (maybe Charlotte). If we're trading one pick I want to go all in and actually give this a real shot.

I don't necessarily disagree, but two way wings are the current premium in the league. You're going to pay more for a scarce commodity.

This question was for LJ, but i'm going to jump in. The West and NBA at large is wide open this year. It's never this open, when a landscape like this presents itself and you have a duo that no one wants to face, if they're healthy, it's a crime not to give them the best shot possible. The teams that scare me in the playoffs are Memphis, Milwaukee, and Boston. Memphis isn't battle tested and while they're young, you might be able to exploit that. In the East, that's going to be a blood bath and whoever comes out the victor will be vulnerable from the wounds obtained from that series.

You deal for Bojan, it strengthens your two year window. If it can help secure your trip to the finals this year, it's worth every penny. Then next year is likely your last shot of legitimacy with this core, it keeps you in contention depending on the offseason and prevents you from being dumb and signing Draymond. That's a win in my books.

    I understand that logic.

My counter-argument is that we are completely leveraging on the fact that LeBron AND AD are going to be available throughout the season and in shape to go through 4 playoff series as the underdog (and no HCA), not counting possible play-in games.
That hasn't happened the last 2 years and AD is already out and the odds that both can do it are very very low.

It's just that actual data and recent history are not in our favor. And that has to be considered when you run a franchise and do a deal that affects your future.

I still think people are underrating GSW and Phoenix. GSW had different injuries on core guys. Their starting lineup is still the #1 in NBA in +/-. In a playoff series they will be really really tough. Phoenix are literally playing with their best 2 players and missing the 2 main bench guys. They basically miss 4 of their top 6 players. They are very well coached, have experienced success with this team and know how to play. There's a good chance CP3 won't be fully healthy throughout the year as well (he's in the AD category) so I agree there's a fair chance they won't be as strong. I wouldn't count them out though, because if he's available, they're up there.
Then there's still the Clips. I don't think they have it, but they have a deep roster and if we count ourselves then they have as much or even more chances of Kawhi and PG are healthy. Their load management is super weird at this point, have had no runs with a consistent rotation, so it's either a big failure or they're actually striking gold and getting the benefits later in the year

Agree with the other teams you mention, I think we can win any other matchups, but it's not like we walk through them. But again, that's counting with health, which we haven't had for 2.5 years.

For all of this, I wouldn't do lightly that deal with Bojan. Especially for an unprotected FRP in 2027, that pick can be so high. I mean, current odds are actually pointing that it's more likely to be a lottery pick than the opposite, considering our timeline. To trade for a guy that just lightly improves our team but doesn't move the needle, it's hard to justify.

We can still go to the playoffs and have that same puncher's chance if we don't do any deal (because it's still solely based on LeBron/AD availability). AND we can still improve the squad with our other assets. And we can get other guys who can bring similar shooting, possibly better defenders and especially have value down the line for the upcoming years.
I would much quickly give a FRP for Rozier than Bojan, and he's a guard.

Other thing it just strike me: with Bojan, we are assuming we don't play TB/AD/LeBron/Bojan together right?

I think you have to move based on the assumption of good health for our stars particularly since we have them for the next few seasons. Especially when they are putting up the kinds of numbers we’ve seen from them.

If we aren’t building or making moves with the assumption of LeBron and AD being healthy this season for the playoffs then what are we doing? If we don’t think AD will be healthy then trade him, get pieces and picks for him now and rebuild. The entire point of having 2 superstars is to try to win a title right now, and if they don’t think they can do that then they should move on. What’s the point of straddling the line, or hoping to land Beal or LaVine or Lillard or something to pair with AD if they don’t think LeBron friggin James and AD can win it all, when they have evidence that they can?

I’m not saying to throw away the future to try to win now, because I don’t think one pick for Bojan IS doing that at all. There’s other potential moves to be made that set us up better for the the next few years better than doing nothing does, getting back to having players on MLE level deals, stopping the carousel of minimums, gives you more depth to work with and to have for any future trades you want to try. I’ve said it a hundred times, I’m fine with a rebuild, if they want to go that route, go for it, but hovering on both sides isn’t that, and it’s pointless, a retool via a player like Beal or something will only make things worse, and it will cost us all the picks as well, talk about screwing ourselves and being stuck, hoo man.
