Jeanie, what's it doing for the family name having the team in a position it hasn't been in since 1958?
our problem is at the top. we can't compete with a) the way we spend and b) our organizational structure. both need to change if we're serious about returning to full prominence. and i like jeanie, personally (at least her public persona). i just think all the buss kids are generally in over their heads and don't know who to listen to or how to find the right people to listen to. which can be tough, admittedly. but if it were me, i'd use the market and just poach proven folks from elsewhere using vast financial resources. instead, we kinda go with the folks we trust via personal relationships. and again, i get that comfort--it works for most things in life. i just don't know if it's what you need to compete at the top levels of pro sports.
won't happen, but the buss family selling the team would be a huge step in the right direction aside from 19-20, it's been absolute hell for this franchise since dr. buss died. it's a shame his kids didn't even come close to inheriting his skill at running the team
if you love something, set it free. let's let some pros handle this. and now's the time. we're entering another rebuilding phase. tear out the entire apparatus. double ujiri's salary and tell him he has full roster autonomy and a blank check.
if we were truly the yankess of basketball or whatever, we definitely would. we've basically never done things like this, though. because we're a mom and pop shop.
the brand is still strong. a good FO wouldn't have made the russ trade. they'd have told lebron to kick rocks. now, a good FO could flip what we've got to a middling team without giving up 1sts, wait out lebron's contract, and have us ready to jump back into the thick of things by 2025/6. i think some really important stuff will happen over the next few months in terms of future viability. we'll see if these folks are up to it, and yes, i'm nervous about that.
Nah ... just purple tinted glasses. Look what happened when Guggenheim bought the Dodgers from the penny pinching, drama queen/king McCourts. Oh wait ....
If Jeanie would pull her head out of her a** we could save the team and the Buss family doesn't have to sell the team. The unwarranted Rob extension is what has me lacking faith in Jeanie. We could have fired Rob this upcoming offseason, he would have been the next scapegoat to go down. Then hire the best GM available and have him tear down this team. Trade AD, trade Lebron, have decent free agency money. Ham will still be around so SOME continuity will be there. And finally start building a team again, it won't be pretty to start but its not pretty right now. Enough of this constant roster turnover to surround two downward spiraling stars with bottom barrel pieces that probably won't be back the following year.
if the rambii and tim harris are still here a) no great gm is taking the job and b) any gm will be hamstrung. i want to do real team-building, too, but simply replacing rob isn't how that happens.
