because the return for AD is likely worse than AD, so it hurts us now and later? if you want to move AD due to durability concerns...why wouldn't you move lebron, who's missed 30 games a year of late and is 38 years old? at least AD is 29 and could conceivably be useful past next year. if the ship is sinking, why would you keep the part that's least likely to work later?

cap-less is different than soft-capped. the soft cap has worked pretty well for the nba.

the clippers aren't a dynasty. nor were the early mavs under free-spending cuban (who apparently packed it in after the ring), nor the paul allen blazers, nor the nets, nor other teams that have blown through the cap via circumvention.

the money's not translating to consistent winning in any case but gs, who started winning BEFORE they started spending big, tbh. they're competent AND rich.

to me, the easiest next step is to drop even the mini-mle from teams above the apron. it's not a great tool, but it ensures that these teams will never have anything but vet mins in FA, which also makes it harder to do trades via inflating contracts due to raise rules and then aggregating them (like we might do). then maybe just step up the penalties at the highest levels until a team finally sells off a good player for nothing.

I understand why you're mentioning those previous cases of overspending but the cap was much lower at the time. Now it's much higher and therefore, the gap is also much bigger. With everyone healthy, I see the Mavs, Suns and Memphis losing to Warriors/Clippers just based on lack of depth. The difference is too much

I agree with your other suggestions

OK, and when AD gets injured from carrying this team and isn’t playing and we are getting zero from him that’s better? How is nothing better than a very good return? You don’t get equal value for stars, doesn’t mean you don’t make a move, again, look at what Utah just did getting 3 first, Sexton and Markkanen for Mitchell. Getting useful players like Beasley and Vanderbilt and FOUR first round picks for Gobert. AD couldn’t bring something similar to that? I know it’s not going to happen, but man is it going to suck when AD is being paid 43 mil to play 40 games a season in a couple years and really has no trade value. Also, LeBron can’t be traded this season, so that’s not an option, I’m pretty sure he’d prefer a full roster of competent players to just having an already hurt AD by his side. It’s business, it’s not personal.

Sorry Weezy we aren’t moving AD now. Lebron isn’t having that. It’s cutting off your nose to spite one’s face. If you want a better supporting cast around Lebron now then trade Russ and use the picks. If we are all in now then let’s go all in. Get Hield and Turner and call it a day. That’s a great starting 5 with a real center who can help on D and knock down shots and a laser three point shooter at SG. Move Nunn and or Beverly for a wing player and we are good to go. That’s a lot better than what we get by trading AD and getting robbed.

You wrote that we aren't moving AD now. I'm just saying that we don't know that. I'm not in favor of moving him, but you never know.

If AD is traded, then we should try to get some sort of rim protector back.

19 year old kids do stupid stuff, but for a franchise to say they want no part of you, I'm guess it would be unwelcome bad press x 10.

OK, I really feel we need a new thread in Laker Discussion to discuss potential deals to improve the team. Because these ideas don't really fall under "Breaking News / Trades / Free Agents / Rumors". I just want to see how many of you agree on this idea. Because something needs to happen ASAP. This is unsustainable, and this might the worst offensive Laker team I have ever seen.

I legitimately enjoyed watching the Smush Parker/Kobe/Luke Walton/Odom/Kwame Brown team more than this Lakers team. This team makes me have self esteem issues.

It’s one of the worst offensive teams I can recall.

And we actually shot a bit better tonight so yeah.

teams really bad right now as pretty much every one predicted.
