it's an empirical question, though, as most of these dynamo gms work in small markets and have zero rings. the latter isn't held against them due to the former. i think it's easier to be a gm in a place where nobody expects anything.

can you imagine going on year 5 of "rebuilding" and having SGA as your foundational piece and a full expectation that you won't win games for another year or two. talk about job security!

rob's two years removed from a title and on the hot seat.

Rob isn’t on the hot seat, Jeanie doesn’t fire friends. She almost didn’t fire Luke because he was “family”, she gets way too attached to employees. It’s beyond laughable that Rob got an extension after last years roster, after the worst trade in franchise history, and that she didn’t even announce it because she knew it was a horrible look.

just how vogel was? you don't pay luxury tax on coaches and gms. we can fire rob and hire another gm for less than the tax on caruso's contract would have been.

Resource curse (i.e. countries rich with natural resources tend to have dysfunctional governments) works the same in basketball?
Lakers and Boston historically and obviously GS currently goes against that hypothesis. I do think we have a track record of what Presti wants to aim for when he does have stars as well

Not me. He’s overrated. Never won a thing. I’m serious. He was gifted KD and lost him as well as all of the players who made them a good franchise. They’ve been in the dustbin of the league hoarding picks since then.

Rob is not on the hot seat from the FO. Vogel was. Or did we miss that Rambis was calling for his head mid last season. Jeannie loves Rob. Frank was a third choice HC that won his way to an extension but would always be on the hot seat with a Lebron led team.

To be fair, he had Russ. I blame Russ :D KD left because he couldn’t take playing with Russ anymore. That’s my revisionist history take.

Not that I think he’s so great but I do think he can manage assets and make deals better than Rob.

We have 3 mega stars. She is light years ahead of her brother. It may not be pretty now, but I do want to see this current roster completely reset to see what Rob can do when completely given the keys to build minus the noose known as Lebron. It's not a very fair evaluation for anyone trying to appease Klutch. It's absurd.

Props to Jeanie on her loyalty to the people putting in the work. People putting in the work will make it happen. Obviously she knows what has gone on with Klutch and Lebron or she would not have extended Rob if she didn't have faith. She fired her own brother. She fired a championship winning coach. She has no problem cutting the people out of her life/business that aren't cutting it. The Rambii aren't the problem. Rob isn't the problem. Collectively caving to the stars is the more likely culprit.

Have their been mistakes? Yes of course, but we also hired a guy who was an agent with no GM experience. There were going to be mistakes. And in spite of that he already has a belt to his name. I'm happy to see him work on the next one, but I don't think this group has another one in them.

Props to the Lakers for seeing that for what it is, and not mortgaging the future to appease narcissistic superstars that think they crap gold and walk on clouds. If you are so great, and if you are such a great leader, take this roster and make the most of it. Don't b**** a** whine in the press. You're 38 years old and are a billionaire. Read the room a little.

I agree with most of this, BUT Rob completely dismantled a Championship team when he didn’t have to.
    Tweak it? Fine.
Tear it down to literally just LeBronze and AD who have any chemistry together in two short summers? Completely idiotic. Stupid. Senseless. Careless. Dumb. Zero Excuses.

I know some here don’t like these guys, but the questions to me are valid, we are rotten at the top. Anthony was saying on his latest show with Harrison that one thing he learned from the Legacy doc was that Jeanie gets rid of anyone who isn’t fiercely loyal to him. Jerry had guys around that would give it to him straight, Jeanie employs friends and family and anyone that’s wronged her isn’t here anymore. I hadn’t thought of it that way, but it’s true, and kinda disturbing

I watch a lot of games with my nearly 90 year old grandpa. I say “watch” loosely because he can barely see anymore, his hearing is very bad. Me and my grandma will often have to slowly narrate segments of the game to him. Admittedly he doesn’t have a deep understanding of the game or even remember too many of our players.

But still, during the game today when I had to explain to him yet again that the Lakers were losing, he started asking some questions. Who is the owner nowadays? Who is the manager that decides the roster? How much money do our players make?

This man, completely detached from the overreactionary nature of social media and the internet, independently came to the conclusion that we are rotten from the ground up.
