i was half kidding; i just don't think ryan (or swider, the poor man's version) really add much. if all you can do is shoot--and you need minutes to get in rhythm--you're not an nba player, imo. if he disappeared, we wouldn't suffer.

i'm worrying troy is this year's ariza in that we wait a long time and then he doesn't solve any problems.

i do think we signed him early for a reason, though. we clearly thought we could use his skillset, and i think we could (in theory, of course).

    Yeah, agreed.

    He is just a band-aid.

I really like what I've seen from JTA (minus shooting,.which could apply to whole team), but he's been better than what I thought.

I think LBJ, JTA, and Brown can fill that SF position for us. The real improvement has to come from a trade, IMO (mainly addressing shooting woes).

gordon hayward would look fantastic as a sf here.

and yeah, trade is the only way. FA was never going to deliver what we needed. not even close.

Not that are built like that can play D and shoot 3s. If you're undersized but can successfully slot between three positions, play D, and shoot then you've separated yourself from the pack. Walker's skillset overlaps with 4 other guards. Each is better at something than the other, but all 4 are downhill drivers.

You're taking a gamble that his 3% last year was not an outlier, but that's less a gamble than we took on Walker being able to defend at all. Brown had a year sample size at his question mark. Walker never showed defensive ability in one of the best systems in the league for over two decades.

If our new centers were who we thought they were, I'd cut Gabe with zero hesitation. But the fact that he's been our best backup C option gives me pause in cutting him loose until/unless we get front court help in a Russ trade.

I was just watching his highlights from last night. Older and injury prone, yes. Still put up 26 being efficient.when the game was competitive.

He looks great. He also likes great last in year up until injury. It really isn't ability. It just health. He can play.

I'd eat the extra year and say bye bye WB.

I'd keep him. We have up until January to evaluate.

I think he can play some small ball 5, but we will see.

walker had one good shooting year on low attempts, too, but i'm told to ignore that and focus on preponderance of evidence. without the three, brown's sort of david nwaba. and brown has none of the offensive creation abilities that walker has.

more importantly, it took a two-year deal to get brown.

even more importantly, if he played here, he'd a) forget how to shoot for sure, and b) be roasted daily for being too short. seriously, man--all day long with the "we're too short" and we're pining for a 6'4" sf/pf?

and again, i like brown and would have been happy with the signing. but this isn't the missed opportunity of a lifetime.

Walker couldn't shoot or defend with SA. Even if Brown's shot regresses, his defense is a lot better than Walker. A lot.

Nwaba was on my list too of cheap wings to target. But we love skill overlap and redundancy like no other. You don't need that offensive creation ability when you have Bron, Russ, Nunn, and DS. How repetitive do you want your players? And how much of our cap do you want to allocate for that one thing? Skill variance is the path to success. Ten guards who are undersized AND do the same thing is front office incompetence. Vacuum signings.

Good! Prevents us from paying Draymond Green $30m a year. The yearly flush the roster for 1 year, 1 trick mercenaries gets you nowhere.

Everyone shoots worse here. But give me someone who shot well at least once, defends, and brings something else to the table than non-shooters who don't do that. And Brown is a "He's short, but..." player. We don't have those guys. PJ Tucker is undersized but has played his a** off so people don't complain about his size. We're playing guys up positions who have no business being put in that position because Rob sucks at roster construction.

He wasn't my top target and I'm not going to die on the Brown hill. But he was another, better, different option that was out there that Rob missed. I agree this wasn't an opportunity of a lifetime, just a better one than we took. And I really like what I've seen out of Walker so far and am glad he's shown me more than I expected. He's one of the easier players to root for so far this year.

I'm getting Nunn vibes from Troy Brown

Yep. And Brown's number are overrated because he was playing with the Nets and now in Denver who have great offensive threats and shooting which leave him open. A bit like Beverley's numbers.
He would be just as bad of a shooter in our current roster.

I do like him a lot and think he's great for any contender.
But don't see the fit at all in our roster. I think it's one of those cases where if we got him we would criticize and say we should have gotten Walker who got 20pts playing for the Nuggets

agree with pika. we just see a lot of green grass everywhere else. bruce brown's good; i'm not sure if he's appreciably better than walker, and a lot of stuff just feels like people wanting rob to be a scapegoat for what always just boils down to the russ trade.

oh, and if you want to run a 4-out offense when nobody can shoot, you better have 5-6 guys who can put it on the floor and attack. it's your only hope.

i don't think THT is going to be out of the league, but i'm guessing he'll have to opt in to that last year of his contract, which i'm not sure i would have guessed when he signed it.

    Your.vihes are probably wrong.

Only thing we want to is a career average 3 point shooter that can play a little 3.

Actually I would say Bruce Brown is a good example of why most people basically avoid answering “well who would you have signed?” type questions.

Each time someone gives a legit answer it just unravels into a lot of straw man arguments.

Brown’s a solid player. There’s no need to trash the guy.

And his name was mentioned among others because the question is asked frequently. If the question is ignored then it’s just be argued that folks are ducking the question.

Not a single person called him an all star or anything. He’s just a guy some of us liked. Which you all asked us. Multiple times.

Okay. Let’s compare what the Warriors roster looks like when you remove Steph and Klay with the Lakers after you remove AD and LeBronze. Then we can compare the remainder of the Bucks after Middleton and Giannis are removed with what the Lakers have after AD and LeGM are taken out. The teams aren’t even close when it comes to talent level in every category.

Please don’t place KD alongside these other players. The dude has done absolutely nothing with big time talent around him, if you set aside the time he sheepishly joined the team he couldn’t beat- one of the best built squads of NBA history so they could fulfill his dream of becoming a Champion.

straw man arguments? i pointed out that brown's shooting resume is actually really similar to lonnie's and that they're the same size. everyone harps on size and shooting, and then suggests bruce brown. bruce brown also isn't guarding jayson tatum or kawhi leonard. this isn't trashing bruce brown. it is simply stating facts that even bruce brown knows.

and what started this wasn't a question. it was someone posting bruce brown's stats from one game (noticed it wasn't his first one) in the transactions thread. think you're blaming the wrong folks for looking to start a fight.
