Oh yeah. I went through this on here a few weeks back. We need to come out strong as we’re playing some good teams early. Big part of my worry is that we get off to a slow start and the whole thing goes nuclear.

It's nuclear almost from game one for Russ now if he's starting. Not so much or at all if he was willing to come off the bench as a super sub, long as he was under control. That would buy him a ton of good will if he was just decent to good at it. But if he's hurting us out of the gate every game as a starter with those same bone headed mistakes losing his man, brain fart turnovers and first airballs. .... the Crypt is going to light him up!!

the fans are nuclear. i'll be watching lebron, AD, and ham as the early Ls pile up (and they will, those teams are good and aren't learning a new system/coach/teammates). if they check out like lebron and AD did last year, it's defcon 1.

ham's got a HUGE job on his plate.

One report out of the off-season was that the front office wanted to see how Bron and AD looked before making any trades. They didn't want to make a move if those two can't play like top x talent because then there's no sense of making a move.

Now, I don't think that's nearly as big of a factor as not wanting to give up the picks or holding out for a better deal. But if there's truth to that, I wonder if what we've seen out of them in the pre-season pushes them closer to a deal that slots the roster in a more advantageous position. Other than AD's early injury concerns, those two have looked f***ing good.

Agreed… but it kind of goes both ways, we all now see AD and Lebron look great, but what’s out there that Westbrook and our picks can fetch?

The Utah package lost a lot of its appeal because they traded Bogdanovic. All that’s left out there is the Indiana Turner/Hield deal.

I think Turner would help this team and Hield would help as well being a 3 point threat, but Hield isn’t very good on defense. I think a Nunn/Beverley backcourt might even be better than a Nunn/Hield or Beverley/Hield backcourt, especially considering the defensive side.

I think what we saw in preseason still confirms that this team needs a 3&D big wing(s).

So how about we solve a lot of problems for teams out there with this 3 team deal:

Indiana gets Westbrook + lakers first round pick(s) <— it’s up to Rob to negotiate how many to give to grease this in terms of protections, swaps, etc.

    Phoenix gets Daniel Theis

Lakers get Myles Turner and Jae Crowder

You could even envision that Phoenix could be a friendly team for the Lakers to negotiate with because their GM is James Jones, Lebron’s former teammate and is a Klutch client.

Phoenix does this because Crowder wants out, they are actively shopping him because they are planning to reduce his role in favour of Cam Johnson. They end up getting Theis who is a solid backup center on a less than non-taxpayer MLE salary. Someone (either Indy or LA) would likely have to also include a future 2nd rounder going to Phoenix but that’s not the end of the world.

Both Turner and Crowder are expiring contracts, so it maintains flexibility for whatever plan the front office has for next summer. It kind of eases the reluctance of letting go multiple picks because part of the reason was if we took on long term contracts that turn out badly (ie potentially Hield), we wouldn’t have future picks to attach to shed those contracts. This would not be an issue in this case.

On top of that, both players are 2-way players who can play defense and know their role on offense, which is hit the open 3 and let Lebron/AD goto work. It’s early but I’d imagine both have the attitude to fit into Coach Darvin’s culture.

This depth chart actually looks like there isn’t a whole lot of holes… it fits well:

    Beverley/Nunn/Schroder
    Reaves/Walker/Christie
    Lebron/Crowder/Brown
    AD/JTA/Gabriel
    Turner/Jones/Bryant

Crowder may come off the bench but would easily average 30 minutes a game because Our finishing lineup/have AD play center lineup would be:

    Beverley/Nunn/Crowder/Lebron/AD

    not bad…

I like this structure, but if you trade future firsts for Myles Turner you are 100% resigning him to a probably $18-20ish million a year contract next summer. He's also going to be in the closing lineup, a better wing would make it a conversation but Crowder isn't good enough at this stage of his career to push Turner to the bench in high leverage minutes. I agree though that Turner/Crowder is preferable to Turner/Hield, I actually really like a Nunn/Beverley/Reaves/Walker IV backcourt group.
