yeah, i've been worried about it. they already basically tried him at the 1 because there's such a logjam at the 2. i don't think he's a 3. everyone needs to chill on the MIP talk and be ready for a quiet year from reaves, imo. that said, bevs and nunn are clearly injury risks, so his minutes might open way up at some point, and i'd expect him to capitalize if and when they do. just not as a backup pg and probably not as a backup sf. silver lining: we won't be in a THT situation where teams are thinking about offering him a big contract to lure him away. we may be able to keep him at a good price and start building some continuity in our supporting players.
yes, and i think the team did ok when he did. but it was hard to judge with how funky the back half of last year was.
Yeah I did that take on the MIP but there's too many question marks. He has no fixed role on the team and his versatility will actually play against him in this roster. I was counting Nunn would be healthy too. I'm also not sure Ham loves him. It's just intuition, we'll see
Looked sharp out there with the starting lineup. Out assisted CP3 in the first half. It's a shame there's not a spot for him as a starter with all these guards we have on he roster. As a connective player, he looks better when he's on the court with the best players on the team.
Reaves looks as heady and valuable out there with good players as the Eagle did. Great passer. Puts it right where it’s supposed to be for a great look in rhythm for his teammates more often than not and has a really slick repertoire of fundamentally sound passes.
Much, much better passer than Caruso. I still miss the Eagle- his sick dunks and shutdown defensive plays.
Yup. So far Jones and Bryant have been okay- just kind of serviceable. Since it’s Preseason, would be nice to see what Huff looks like with the starters.
Nunn’s bigger and stronger and better than Schroder so he should get first call for that but yeah Dennis too. He’s got that great quickness on defense and getting to the rim in sneaky ways.
Austin Reaves was EVERYWHERE tonight. Stuffing the stat sheet with nifty passes, getting steals in the passing lanes, knocking down floaters and open looks, grabbing boards and blocking CP3. I loved it. I needed that. More Reaves please. How is this kid only a second year player? Poise.
he was fantastic in this one; night and day from the first game, where he was uncharacteristically tentative.
In my mind he is our third most important player. Not just from last night but how he ended last season. If you are trying to put our best starting line up out there he has to be in it. He will make the game easier for both Lebron and AD, hopefully helping to preserve them. Some tough decisions for Coach Ham.
I said a couple days ago some here are really short changing the minutes they think Austin will be given due to our personnel. There's no way this coaching staff sees how well he plays the game physically and intellectually and does not get that he needs minutes. Ham has preached competition and best players get minutes from day one. No way they're not going to find those for him at backing up and/or starting as needed positions 3 - 1 against various matchups. And being in there in crunch time, I would bet. Eagle like value.
