the rationale is they have until the deadline and are hoping the Lakers get desperate enough to drop the two picks.

Oh hey another Derozan appearance. I doubt they'd be bad enough to blow things up though.

the bulls could definitely fall off a cliff. they sort of did over the course of last year, tbh.

the question is whether we'd bother to move for derozan after--according to him--we passed on him previously.

We can't give the two picks for that deal. I would trade 1 though. Protections are irrelevant, it's even worse because it block us of using a trade swap on the year after.
I could do a pick and a swap right now probably

Bulls will likely try to add an expiring to Vuc and blow up to rebuild quickly around Lavine

Big shocker. We’d be unwise to do that deal though, unprotected firsts for those players, no thanks. Plus as mentioned, deals like one for DeRozan could come up over time, maybe we could get Caruso back.

Hypothetical: Would you trade Russ and both FRP’s unprotected for DeRozan and Lonzo?

The idea being Chicago doesn’t think they have enough to compete and decide to blow it up for assets, and also don’t want to deal with the uncertainty of Lonzo’s health since he’s under contract for 3 more years (player option on the last one)

I’m going back and forth between “That would be too risky for us since Lonzo’s injury is such a question mark” to “if there’s a good chance that Lonzo really can heal properly from this surgery, that would be such a steal on our part that there’s no way Chicago would do it”

Since we're on the topic of DD, I wonder how his teammates and the fans in Chicago feel about him bringing up his lost love to the national media every month. Maybe they're OK with it since half their players are either former Lakers or players who were almost Lakers, so maybe they get it. It's just odd. You don't really see anyone doing this in sports.

I'd rather do it for Caruso back

Wouldn’t do it, as you said Lonzo’s health is too much of a risk, and DeRozan is good, but he’s not 2 unprotected first round picks good, he just turned 33 as well. I wouldn’t do 2 firsts for Turner either, but at least with him he’s only 26 and you can re-sign him for many years to come. Zach Lowe proposed like some sort of package of Russ, Jones, and the picks for DeRozan and Vucevic, that’s a more enticing package to me.

He’s been flirting with us for a loooong time

Lonzo is a corpse. It's too late for Derozan.

I honestly wonder if Lonzo is done.

As many questions as there are with Nunn, there are even more with Lonzo.

We were right to move him when we did.

Lonzo unfortunately is very injury prone, he hasn’t played since January and probably wont be back on the floor till the new year.

He is averaging 50 games a season at the moment.

We aren’t the only team that experienced a dificult off-season.

It’s going to be interesting to watch what happens with Phoenix (owner), Boston (coach) and Brooklyn (stars) who all have alot of uncertainty as well.

2 1sts for vuc and derozan. that's hilarious.

the national media hates the lakers so much.

AD and Ham gave Scottie pippen jr some really good props. I’m excited to see him grow. Maybe when we trade some of these guards away, SPJ could get more mins.

Yeah overall I think Lonzo’s injury history is way too concerning and would pass, but I think that’s why offloading him to us would be a reason Chicago would potentially be interested it. As much as I’d love it, they’d be foolish to trade Caruso. He’s the perfect role player on such a team friendly deal.

I would be all over a DeRozan/Vucevic package. That’s easily a package I’d trade both picks for, and I think it would make us contenders. I think Chicago laughs us off the phone if we try to get that for just a single pick though. DeRozan only has one year left after this, and Vucevic is already expiring so it’s not like we’d be giving them immense cap relief. I’m sure they’d be able to get a better package dealing them separately if they wanted to go that route.

My dream scenario for the Lakers:

LaMelo Ball / Dennis Schröder / Smush Parker
Lonzo Ball / Bryce James / Patrick Beverley
Bronny James / LiAngelo Ball / Devean George
Lebron James / Ben Simmons / Jae Crowder
Anthony Davis / Draymond Green / Kwame Brown

    Head Coach: LaVar Ball
    GM: Rich Paul

I'm not sure what was so difficult about our offseason. We didn't make any stupid trades and picked up some good players.

shades of "utah's going to get 1sts for all their castoffs", imo. the problem with decent players on expirings is that the expiring ironically lowers their value, as the team taking them wants one or the other. we've been burned twice (schroder, dwight's first go around) by trading for a talented expiring.

anyway, if we're giving up two 1sts, i want a younger star or near star type player. it seems like the FO is on that same page, too, given their response to the various offers this summer. it's the right choice, imo.

if we're unable to pull that off, the next phase of self-control will be not mozdenging the cap space.
