I don’t think anyone is penciling them as champs. I believe I’m the only one who is actually optimistic on them.

I’m really happy with our rotation at the 5. For context, Ben Simmons is bigger than Thomas Bryant and the size of Damian Jones.

I’ll be watching them and us to see how both teams come out of the gates.

 

There have been a few others crowing about the Nets. And for context, Simmons loses 1/2 ft to Bryant on wing span who is also +10lbs on Ben, how is that bigger? Because Ben's an inch taller? Longer reach effectively makes you taller when it comes to guarding and blocking. Damian is the same height, has 4" wing span on Simmons and weighs about 5lbs more. Ben ain't gonna body up any of our bigs including Lebron. He's a damn good defender don't get me wrong, but our bigs rotation is solid. It's all gonna depend on the production of Bryant/Jones and I think one of them will stand out.

 

A Lakers/Nets Finals would be a sports writer's dream.

 

How bout both play well at what their strengths are which is what we should expect if healthy.

 

Unfortunately, history has so far shown we shouldn't expect much on the health front but yeah, ideally that'd be great but I'll just be happy if one busts out with some talent and the other is a serviceable center to spell a few minutes.

 

We already know both do have talent in certain facets of the game. It’s not like they’re rookies.

 

I really like our 5 rotation and if they stay healthy I think they’ll be great. My point was Simmons ain’t some small guy and playing backup minutes at the 5 won’t be a problem.

 

simmons is as big as most teams' backup 5s (many teams really don't even play 48 minutes with a traditional center). the nets have a credible starting center, one brute to back him up in sharpe, and then simmons to defend opposing backup 5s.

re: klutch/green--it's something that scares me a bit. another thing to watch for would be if the warriors have injury issues again, we trade russ for green during this season, which is actually better than signing him because we can operate over the cap and thus don't have to gut the roster. gs also gets to slash a ton of payroll if that happens.

Ownership wants to avoid repeater tax. They're selling to gullible fans that they want cap flexibility. Absolutely no attention given to winning.

 

this is possible. it's really hard for me to believe lebron is on board with just fully tanking the last couple years of his career, though (as that's what this would be).

the only positive thing i can come up with is they truly believe that having expiring money will be more valuable as the season goes on.

as for the bogdanovic thing, remember that in order for a russ/bogdanovic trade to work, utah has to add a lot more salary (conley or beasley/clarkson + gay). now, bogdanovic/beasley/gay only adds gay's salary next year, which is pretty small. so i'm wondering if we said we wouldn't add a pick in any deal that involves returning salary past this year--something i understand.

what i can't understand is what value they think actual space would have next summer. i mean, sure maybe kyrie comes for slightly less than his max, and we make it up to him the following year. but completely tearing the team down for a third consecutive year? how does this make sense?

 

i'm desperate to know whether we could have gotten bogdanovic/conley/gay for russ and no picks. i would have gladly punted on FA next year (and had another large sack of expirings to deal the following year, btw) to move for better-fitting pieces.

I mean if we trade the picks because we are committed to LeBron and then be under the cap next year, I'll seriously think to jump ship until Jeanie leaves

As for now, I'm glad we have been holding the picks on the trades that were discussed.

On another note, it's aberrant that we traded Stan. I said I would wait to see if there would be another move following that one, there wasn't. It makes absolutely no sense at all to add Stan to that deal. Terrible. And I blame Rob for that
