my guess is a) the contracts went for more than one year past this one or b) the picks were heavily protected. or both.

the leak is from utah's side because they set it up too well in the press that they were going to be sorting through great offers for bogdanovic.

i never understood that, and i was right.

i'd love to hear if we ever discussed conley/bogdanovic for russ and whether danny tried to squeeze picks out of us. if so, seriously f*** that guy. they made a worse move to spite us.

You’ve been very vocal about sending picks out with protections, which is smart, especially when dealing with picks so far out.

The only thing I would say is, the downside of dealing picks even with protection is that we lose the trade assets needed for a star trade.

pretty sure i didn't back any charlotte deal that involved any 1sts going out, nor did most of my utah scenarios involve that. i said i'd send a protected 1st for turner/hield because a) turner was probably the best FA we could sign anyway, and b) it would make us more competitive right away. also, i view turner as a value player, such that his inclusion in a future trade should reduce requisite draft compensation.

i agree i want the powder dry for the next superstar opt out, though. but i actually don't like going into this summer with cap space, tbh. i'd rather eat some salary and bring in some picks to move russ out, which could become possible.

Any other team and they’d have dealt Westbrook as a large expiring for a first and some long term salary.

i'm not at all against this and think it could still happen, tbh.

it bothered me so much that the media has acted like he's not a huge expiring. i mean, even if he's bad, expiring contracts still hold value. just need the right situation.

by mid season when the pretenders are well established and each team has their drama/frustrations, Westbrooks expiring will be attractive. That being said, the Lakers would have to remain competitive until then.

Plus you have to give enough time for any new players to be incorporated: real fine line you have to walk if that is the plan

yeah, it obviously wasn't plan A, and it still might not work out and russ just walks in the summer.

It's tricky - the variance is going to get a lot higher.
You can walk away with nothing and that basically means the worst case scenario: you've wasted all your resources on Brick, likely the season is lost, and you get nothing in return

Upside could also be higher than what has been offered: say Bron/AD look good plus Reaves and a team that was expected to be decent like Portland stinks. Lillard is old and he's not going to demand a premium like Mitchell and it's also a team that wouldn't seem inclined to just him to a team he doesn't want to go. Same thing goes with Brooklyn and Kyrie

Right? I mean, they SHOULD want bad contracts. Especially now that they are starting the rebuilding. Next 2/3 picks at least will need at least 2/3 years to grow and this is if they get them right.
They also need to be over the minimum cap so I honestly don't understand this. They should want all the Haywards and Harris of this world. I'm surprised Sixers didn't jump on them to change Tobias for 2/3 rotation pieces. Clarkson, Beasley and Bogdanovic would have fit greatly there
Dame signed an extension until 2027 where he will get 60M a year in the last 2 seasons. He's finishing his career in Portland

    Jared can't shoot.

Great defender and solid rebounder, though.

So where are we at someone please?

Bogdanovic is off the table and so are the Jazz at this point I imagine? Conley/Clarkson are not that compelling
Pacer deal seems to be stuck on picks and we just don't agree
Screw Randle and the Knicks (IMO)
Spurs? Anyone else or is Rob closing up shop?

I haven't posted much, but I've been following this thread closely. It's been a disappointing off-season, but at this point I think it would be wise to hold on to Westbrook until the trade deadline. The Nets will not be able to control Kyrie, once again. An opportunity for a straight swap (no picks) may present itself sooner than we think.

Is Troy brown jr good enough to be a significant SF For our team? He and JTA are our only real wing defenders..
