my theory why we've done nothing is that we're trying to open cap to acquire Kyrie next summer, if we have a guarantee he wants to join the Lakers as widely reported a few weeks ago.

if that is the case, I've got to give Rob kudos for facing the truth that no one wants to face which is that this season is unsalvageable with our current assets, and go all-in on next season.

 

it's pretty insane how the lakers are already going to be 3 seasons removed from the 2020 title when they won it hasn't even been 2 years since they won it. game 6 of the '20 finals was played on 10/11/20

we'd be stupid if plan A was to hold a less-than-max slot for kyrie a full year from now. yeah, let's rebuild the entire team for the 4th year in a row, that's what title winners do.

i think we just have run out of options. and our best options (like indy) keep upping the asking price every time we return to the table.

so we're going to keep the powder dry. if a big name wants out at the deadline (beal?), we will have russ's expiring, the 27 and 29 1sts, some swaps, etc.

it's not ideal, but it's better than spending all future draft capital plus reaves and whatever else isn't nailed down for hield and turner.
