Memphis is an intriguing option because of their assets. Someone went in there and turned things around pretty quickly.

Yeah. They have the tools to make a move. Not sure I’d want to tinker with that team given how well they are doing right now.

Could mess things up bringing in the older surly vet to pair with the great chemistry new kids on the block

They don't even have fake Twitter accounts yet.

JJJ is nothing like Jaylen, imo. Brown is a 2nd star with a bit of potential to be a #1 in a competitive team. JJJ is always injured and even healthy won't have that impact to turnaround a franchise. Is a nice 3rd string or even a great 4th. You put JJJ next to star and he doesn't move the needle. Bane the same btw. GREAT players to have in a roster, but not star material.

Then we have the picks. People hear picks and get all crazy it's 4 picks from a young Memphis team that is on the way up, so why would Durant go there based on picks at the 20s? I mean, with Durant they are top5 contenders which makes it even worse
And then our 2027 or '29 picks get discredited when they are actually more likely to end up in the lottery.
It's incredible the narrative picks have nowadays, I can't get it

I really hate when accounts post stuff like this one and think it’s like a “gotcha” on us. First, we wouldn’t have been able to retain all those guys, we couldn’t afford them all, all teams have to choose between their best young players and which they’re going to pay and which they aren’t at some point. Second, we traded a couple of them for AD and won a title, we win. You read the replies and all you see are all these fans of teams that have never won a thing that say they’re happier hanging a home grown team that is fun or whatever and it’s nonsense, they’d trade it for a title if they knew what winning one felt like.

Third, half of these guys aren't good lol. Russell is not a winning player. Clarkson is just a poor man's Jamal Crawford. Lonzo has a lot of talent and a really cool skill set but the updates on his knee injury are very discouraging. Randle is talented and was awesome two years ago, but it looks like that was an aberration. BI and Kuz are the only ones I actually like.

Not to mention Ja’s no shrinking violet himself in the ego department to mesh with KD, as it’s his team and he’s coming off quotes he would have (kicked Jordan’s butt) one on one.

We’re getting very close to the line of moving on from Kyrie. There are other deals, arguably better deals to be made

lol, bane's off limits in a kd deal? ok. if this was the lakers, everyone would be clowning the idea that they're coming to the table for kd with morant, jjj, and bane all off limits.

he's forgetting conley, but yes, even if a mitchell deal doesn't happen, both utah and ny might have interest in dealing with us.

interesting to hear we turned down randle. i know a lot here don't want him, and i get that for sure. but it suggests that we may have more options than people think and have been reporting.

there are a ton of other workable scenarios. in this one, i think we give up zero picks and the knicks give up a bunch.

Yeah, those are all solid deals for us, where we get very useful depth, with players who clearly know how to play their roles.

It seems like we're holding out to the bitter end for Kyrie, and if we can't trade for him before the season (or even during the season) I'm very skeptical of our willingness to take on significant money because they want to sign him next summer. If I understand correctly, after LeBron's extension we can only offer a deal starting at about $22 million per year next summer. I don't really want to do a Utah deal unless its Conley and Bojan, and I don't think they want Conley's $22 million for 2023-2024. Randle is probably a non-starter for that reason, same with Fournier. We're obsessed with Hield for some reason, so maybe that Indiana deal is still an option. But I'm not confident that we immediately pivot to another trade when we hear Kyrie is definitively not available (and there's some reporting today this is the case).

The thing is, smaller markets who have never won before are much happier just competing than places like LA are. In San Diego, we have the SDSU Aztecs Basketball team. They have had some good success for awhile now but they still fly in under the radar. The fans absolutely LOVE them, they have great support from local media and the buzz makes them exciting. It has been an overwhelmingly positive situation on all sides. All that and they have NEVER won squat. Contrast that with the UCLA Bruins. They have been a solid team the past few years, the new coach is doing good things but all you ever hear is that everything sucks about them. The expectations are so high and they boosters rip anyone who is not the second coming of Wooden. They are an entitled bunch with super strong opinions. I frigging hate them all with a passion. They F the whole fan experience for me and I have largely left them. I watch the team out of the corner of my eye, stat follow them but the joy of being a fan has been totally ruined for me.

Smaller market fans often have a pure joy of the experience, they just love the game, have few expectations are can revel in every success way more than fans like us.

Absolutely. I mean, none of this guys won a ring or were anywhere closer to being a big part in a contender team. They scramble in the teams that are not contenders, that tells a lot.

Clarkson is the one who found a role and he is (well, now was) in a good team. Lonzo may breakout in these entertaining Bulls, he needs health. The rest are in teams fighting for the play in. Most don't play winning basketball

I think that's the best for the franchise post-Lebron

We need good players for a trade for a disgruntled superstar, like Durant or Mitchell now. Maybe next year is Dame and Towns. Maybe the other is Luka and Booker...

Ufff, I love that one. Makes sense for all teams. Utah gets a big expiring and 3 young guys with potential
Knicks get Mitchell to add to Brunson, Reddish, Randle and Robinson.
We get two shooters and a floor general that can shoot too. Damn perfect, I'm sold

    Conley
    Reaves
    LeBron
    AD
    Jones

    Nunn
    Fournier | Lonnie
    Bogdan | Troy
    Stan | JTA
    Bryant

This is a damn good team. Plenty of scoring off the bench (Nunn, Fournier and Bogdan) or defense (Stan and JTA). We're mobile with Bryant and Lonnie in without Bogdan, with LeBron running the 2nd unit. Plus we get 3 guys on the bench that can finish the game when they are hot. They have those games but are not consecutive. With 3 guys like that and Conley, Reaves or even Stan or JTA to close games with LeBron and AD, 2 based on matchups and the guy that's hot. That's a power move that would get me hyped, I can tell you
