    conley/bogdanovic or conley/beverly/gay or conley/beasley all work salary-wise.

cranjis seems to be suggesting swapping THT for bevs and russ for hield/turner. which could actually be accomplished in a simple 3-team trade. in fact, not even THT+gabriel gets to bevs' salary number.

I mentioned the possibility we may end up trading Russ around the deadline because by that point we would have paid half his salary.

The other cheap owners would probably be more amenable (is that the right word @abeer3 ) to taking on the Russ deal, and I'm hoping less draft compensation.

Either way, as of right now, I can argue this roster is a worse fit for Russ than last year. If you plan on keeping him past training camp, there's still glaring shooting weaknesses that need to be addressed.

I'm liking the Utah scenario's. I'm liking Indiana scenario's without 2 first, and I like adding Kyrie (not a fan of two firsts), but I get it.

    Let's see what happens...

I'm definitely in the minority here, but I absolutely think Russ for Hield/Turner is worth two firsts. These first round picks are not that valuable, just look at the lottery picks over the last 10 years. Wildly hit or miss and a pretty good number of guys who are out of the league in like 3 years. The best part of our front office is the scouting department and we just bought pick 35 for cash. We'll still get bites at the draft apple.

AD/Turner is a dream frontcourt pairing on both ends of the court and gives us a pretty damn high floor defensively. The C Bags morphed into a dominant defensive team when they started using Horford to guard primary frontcourt threats with Rob Williams coming off the backside to contest shots, with AD/Turner you have two guys who could fill either of those rolls. Offensively, if he's surrounded by Hield/AD/Turner/and either Nunn or Reaves LeBron can slide back into that 2020 point guard role. Reaves/Hield/LeBron/AD/Turner could easily be a +10ish net rating kind of lineup. I'm honestly not sure Hield/Turner is worse than getting back Kyrie, it would restore our defensive identity and put LeBron and AD in much better positions to succeed.

Regardless of what happens in trades, I’m tired of the press saying our players are trash and everyone else’s are great. Lots of teams have bad players and bad contracts, just because ours wear Laker jerseys does not make them worth less in trades.

yeah, i went point by point on an article like that about a month ago, wherein they simultaneously argued that russ can't be moved...until we trade him...and then he suddenly became valuable. just weird stuff.

That is fair. Maybe both teams could come to a compromise and the Lakers end up with two second round picks coming back.

I get the Nets want players, I do not get why they do not go for a 3-team trade with:

    Lakers >>> Westbrook/'17FRP/'19FRP - to - Indy >>> THT - to - Nets
    Indy >>> Hield/Turner - to - Nets
    Nets >>> Kyrie/Harris - to - Lakers

Nets get their youth and 2 very excellent role players one damn near a star, possible big upside in THT, not much to lose in the gamble, one of the top shooters in the NBA in Buddy. All are young-to-prime.

Does Indy take Westbrook and the picks?

Nets better not keep poking the bear. The Turner/Hield for Westbrook, a single FRP & a SRP or some other junk is looking viable. The ridiculous thing is the Nets have nothing else and waiting out the season means getting nothing in return at all.

Yesterday the Nets were keeping Kyrie, now they don't trust him. Some of these media guys " insider" staus is being put into question this offseason.

three team indy deal just makes a ton of sense.

yeah, being an insider now just means you're getting part of the story, often deliberately and intended for an effect.

i never bought that kyrie and bkn were going to be a happy family, much like i don't buy that russ/lakers are going to do the same.

though if you read the leaks, it seems like a kyrie deal is approaching. maybe i'm wrong. and i'm not actually invested in it. i don't trust kyrie, either.

I saw that too, the media are just full of hot piping sh!t. Like people can't do simple problem-solving:

No deal and keeping Kyrie means loss of all obtainable assets related to Kyrie next summer and a very disgruntled Kyrie who is stuck with a team whose FO openly and publicly declare they do not trust Kyrie. It's an absolute UNREPAIRABLE situation there in BRK.

Making a deal means dealing with the Lakers, period, as there is no one else. There has never even been a hint of another team. BRK made up some propaganda about the 76rs and I believe Dallas being interested in Kyrie which both teams laughed at. Westbrook is an entertainer at least, for what is sure to be a down year and the 2 FRPs have great value.

So when the Nets say they are holding out I ask for what exactly? There is nothing going to manifest here, it's take it or leave it.

The Nets are doing terrible on the KD front as well. No bidding wars, none on the horizon. They may legitimately have to drop him for some role players and a FRP or 2. This is why they are sh!**ing bricks.

i believe the nets want players moreso than picks for both durant and kyrie. makes sense to me. the picks are sweeteners, not the substance. i think deals like the gobert deal have warped public opinion on the value of players who can play vs. picks.

truth is no one will give you players for gobert...because players are MORE valuable. this is why boston offering jaylen brown was a game changer--because nobody else had offered a player near that caliber.

and i totally get the nets not being super interested in our picks (even while i don't want to spend them!) because being bad in the short term isn't useful to them.

so yeah, russ doesn't make sense for bkn. the two firsts only marginally. but turner and hield or something like this might make a lot of sense. trick is getting bkn another scoring guard (i think simmons is a functional pg, tbh).

i totally buy the stories that the lakers feel like they have a few options, too. not a lot, but a few.

You’re calling out the media, but where are you getting the idea that the Nets FO are “openly and publicly declaring they do not trust Kyrie”?

From the aggregated tweet that’s taking a few words from Nick Friedell out of context? A guy who already isn’t very reliable and is definitely part of the issues with todays media?

I saw the clip from Nick Friedell talking about the Kyrie situation. He was purely speculating based on quotes from Marks several months ago.

All recent indications have been that both the Nets and Kyrie are willing to give it a go. We can argue about whether or not that’s believable, but I think it’s inaccurate to say that they have publicly portrayed the relationship as irreparable.

I happen to believe that their situation is workable because Kyrie will be on his best behavior during a contract year. Which also may mean (a) they think his value has nowhere to go but up and (b) it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to get a year of production from a star PG with something to prove if all it means is you’re missing out on assets you’re not very interested in anyways.

But I don’t really want to get into all that again. It’s mainly just funny to me how (and no offense, this isn’t personal against you because I know I succumb to the same) so many of us are critical of the media but willing to buy dubious reports or aggregated speculation when it suits the narrative we’re rooting for.

no more drunk posting for me. Meant Bryant behind Turner and huff at 3rd pf. I hate bev too, but that’sa feisty defensive team perfect for Lebron. A 3&d pg who doesn’t really handle the ball.

The Nets distrust of Kyrie goes back to the vaccination problems. Those never resolved. There was a falling out and a considerable drop in trust for Kyrie, many leaks confirming that, so I don't know what you are talking about. Friedel's rant is nothing new. Did Kyrie's frustrations over not being offered an extension suddenly go away? I'm sure Kyrie appreciates the humiliating process of being dragged out to be traded to find no suitors except the Laker's offer of 3 magic beans. Then the waffling stories from the Net's FO "Kyrie's staying" trying to save some face and value while they can.

As for siding with the media when it's favorable for our team? Well, yeah fair enough, that's the way it goes doesn't it? Media is all BS anyways, might as well ride your side when it's got the smoothest glide.

Folks, don’t get thrown off by the media. The two picks news is old and LAL has been reluctantly willing to do so for a while. Reporters are just fishing for news at this point. The picks aren’t the hold up of the deal!
