I agreed with LVBD from the start. It was pretty clear that Lebron was going to sign for the max.

To me it’s also pretty clear that he doesn’t need to hold the extension over us. Our organisation is always going to attempt to take risks and make moves to compete for a championship. We don’t need that kind of negative incentive hanging over our heads compared to someone like a Cleveland.

And I’m sure Lebron understands that - we’re doing our best to trade for Kyrie while exploring different options.

This clearly sets things up as follows; we either trade for Kyrie and a shooter with both firsts or look for another package like Buddy/Turner while only sending out one first. If we can’t do that we’ll probably send out THT and a 1st for a piece.

If Russ stays, next year we’ll have 20m or so in cap space which is two decent prices and the mMLE. So we could potentially have Lebron, AD, THT trade piece, extended Nunn, extended Reaves, 2x 10m players and another mMLE. Which to me is quite a good consolation if we don’t make a trade and the reason why I don’t mind letting russ expire if we can’t actually get a decent package back.

    Weird analogy.

It’s more like Lebron got a large pickup truck for a dense urban city. He can’t park it anywhere and the gas mileage is terrible and he doesn’t drive manual transmission very well. So now he wants to trade it in for an EV, but needs to include a large deposit (2x first round picks).

BUT we don’t know how many charging stations there are around - so hypothetically the EV is a better fit but it might run out of electricity and just disappear for a month or two during the season.

The EV will get called for charging way too often. Aaand...I'll see my own way out.

This makes sense. The team does need more to compete and LeBron (and Phil Handy) are confident they can make it work with Irving.

I'd have to think at least one of Harris and Curry would be coming too.

“Dad I know I totaled the car … but I’m a kid without my license, you really shouldn’t have let me drive. YOU’RE the adult. And I know you’re mad and we may have to dip into your savings, but we BOTH have places to go. We need a new car. Hoarding our savings and trying to make this wrecked car last another year just isn’t viable.

I’m about to graduate so this is an important year. I’ll need to be driven places to have a successful year, and you’re my dad so my success IS your success too”.

Man, must be nice to just throw everyone else under the bus and skip past responsibility on things the way Rob has been able to do.

It's not apples and oranges of course, but no way I could just pin mistakes on everyone else like that in my positions of leadership.

It’s admittedly an absurd analogy, but I think mine is a bit more accurate than a similarly absurd analogy that is suggesting that the reason Lebron wants the team to improve is purely out of a selfish desire to “look down on the little people”.

In your leadership position do the star employees have more power than their boss? If the boss doesn’t do what the star employee wants, will they be on the unemployment line next year? Rob certainly isn’t the first GM to give into his player’s request and he won’t be the last. It happens all over the league. Rob had a trade lined up and pivoted at the last minute because of Lebron. So IMO Lebron gets the lion’s share of the blame.

Yes. Again, its not apples and oranges and I won't go into a ton of detail, but I currently work for a large organization that you definitely would know with a clear hierarchy. I have an important role but there are people above me. So I have to tell those people including my direct boss (and a couple of times his direct boss) why something is or isn't a good idea pretty often. And yeah, telling someone who can fire you before the meeting is over that you disagree with investing x amount of dollars into a new technology that they seem very high on is not exactly fun, but I do it because again, its my job and if it doesn't work out its me who is going to take the bullet for the time and money that was invested. And I do pretty well, but I am definitely not making Rob Pelinka money.

So yeah. For me, he's the GM. Making personnel decisions is his job, not his star players. If he can't do that then he should go.

But I concede, I never wanted Rob and was against the hire to begin with so there's that.

I also concede that given how much we love stars (which we are again showing with this pursuit of Kyrie) I feel strongly that everyone liked the idea of bringing in a name guy like Westbrook.

And I might back down if it was just this, but there's often someone else when Rob is coming up short. Kurt Rambis, LeBron, Klutch, Magic, Rival GMs, rival execs.

We're the Lakers. We should have the best and brightest running the organization and I just don't see that. Haven't for a long time to be honest. RIP Dr Buss.

    End of rant....

Lebron gets the blame always. And deserves it. You want all the praise? Great, you get all the blame too "Chosen One"

I'll blame you not once, not twice.......
