Really liked this one too. Second best of the Predator films. Not one single complaint with this one and it's been a really long time since that's happened with a Predator movie.

Anyone watch “Nope”? I thought it was pretty great. Maybe my favorite film from Jordan Peele. Not as thematically dense as Get Out or Us, but I think that works in its favor. I just thought it was a very fun horror movie, although the horror didn’t really “scare” me because I was often distracted with how cool I thought a lot of the ideas and visuals were.
The longer I sit with Nope the more I love it. I totally get that its not for everyone but its was really good to me.
Finally got to watch Maverick, damn, that took me back. I LOVED it, best movie i saw since the last Avengers. TC is still awesome.
Been trying to take advantage of Hulu since I did pay for it, watched The Raid, Chronicles of Riddick, and on HBO watched Riddick (3). I’d seen parts of each of those Riddick movies before, but never the whole things, not the best movies ever, but man they are fun. The Raid, I guess I’d just forgotten to get to, was fun as hell, that last fight is brutal, maybe to the point of too much haha. Have to watch the sequel now.
James Cameron is on another level. I initially didn’t understand why he had so many Avatar sequels planned and thought it was a mistake. After watching Avatar 2 though, sign me up for as many of these movies as possible! Visually he makes every other movie look like child’s play. Watching this one in 3D felt “next gen”, comparable to watching something in HD for the first time. Just a massive leap technically. But it’s not only visual spectacle, it’s a solid movie that makes the audience much more emotionally invested compared to the first movie, and just all around a blast to watch. Did not feel 3+ hours and really improved the world building. Reminded me a bit of Top Gun Maverick in the sense that it seems to push the boundaries of cinema, and is all around refreshing in how entertaining it is
Saw it today in 3D. It was better than I expected. I had read a few reviews that said it was boring. I was never bored. Some of the story elements were a bit predictable, but I just relaxed and got into it and really enjoyed myself. My wife stayed awake the whole movie and she usually naps through action / Sci-Fi films.
This was pretty much my exact experience, complete with a wife that actually managed to stay awake. I do think they could have made it about 35-45 minutes shorter as there was a lot of Cameron flexing his VFX muscles. Spoiler Also, I didn't like the fact that the Sullys essentially left one tribe knowing full well they were endangering another tribe. And the Chief of the water people was a dumb a** for allowing them to become part of their tribe. It's not kind or noble to take in a single family if it puts everyone under your care in grave danger. That whole dynamic painted everyone in an either negative or idiotic light.
Your post (and other's comments) motivated me HJ. Made time for 1PM showing in 2 days, eschewing the easy 1/2 mile trek to Burbank's AMC 16's version of an IMAX 3D theater .... to "commute" all the way miles and miles over to Universal Citywalk's "real" IMAX Laser 3D presentation ... by myself. Have a seat one left of dead center just half way back. Sheeeooot!!
I hope my recommendation pays off and you enjoy it! I haven’t been to Universal, but the Chinese Theater in Hollywood has a IMAX Laser 3D as well and IMO that’s the best category of screen to watch a blockbuster movie on! For what it’s worth, I did go back and watch Avatar a second time (this time in “4D”) and still had a blast!
Just to confirm here, as I did mention yesterday in LD in the Trades / Rumors thread .... I was blown away "images wise" and "hell of a ride" wise with Citywalk's old school most GIANT screen IMAX, bright dual 4K laser projectors 3D presentation. Length and Cameron's preachiness and some of the corniness of the dialogue notwithstanding. I hadn't been up there to see something at all in probably 10 years, would have been film shot and projectors then, and further back than that for a 3D presentation with I think The Polar Express. Sitting through all the previews, not all created equal style and image wise, with the best of them I was OK with the 2D and giant images but did wonder if maybe I shouldn't have sat a little further back. Top to bottom and left to right it really filled up most of my peripheral vision. Some previews looked sharper than others. Well those were NOT coming from these new SOTA laser projectors doubled in registration over one another for giving lots of brightness that you lose with 3D ... like 50% ish. I have to admit that since my early twenties I have been on a quest in the public and at home with a dedicated space for the biggest and clearest images I can find and manage / afford myself. Absolute honk for things that look real from projected large images. Not too real though with high frame rates with movies as if not done well it can produce the soap opera effect, where it looks more like you are looking at the making of the movie. With GoPro type point of view images or "live events" ... oh hell yeah, the more real the better. This walked a fine line there as I believe it was shot in 60 frames per second. They stayed just "movie like" enough to look realistic while not giving that effect. Once the movie started at that size with as @Helljumper described, "next generation" impact from Cameron's production I was just in awe from that giant screen with the clarity and the so well done 3D .... and throughout the 3 hours the incredible details and realism in all of its many many locations and action sequences and absolutely spectacular scenes. I imagine from what HJ said that the Mann's Chinese Theater has a giant screen too, but I don't know if it's any bigger than the Burbank AMC 16 IMAX screen with both being LARGE but the Burbank one for sure is not as big as Citywalk's. Probably won't be there a whole lot longer and if you live around the area and are into this kind of movie, and liked the first Avatar .... I'd highly recommend you try to get up to Universal Citywalk to see this in 3D before it's gone. You of course can look at screening times and choose your seats in advance on line. Parking was freaking $30 matinee time!
Length of Way of Water, Cameron's preachiness and corny dialogue notwithstanding, it has a Best Picture nomination for an Oscar. How bout that?
I watched Scream VI in the theater in the town I grew up in. First movie I've seen there in years. It was solid. I really like the new cast. I've rewatched the Scream movies recently - all of them, some of them multiple times. My list: 5 1 6 4 2 3
Everything Everywhere All At Once. A friend brought over a 4K Bluray of this and neither of us had seen even a trailer. Oscar winner for BEST picture. I'm sorry. We just could not finish it. Quit right before (was it Part 2?) the last 40-50 minutes. But man that first over half the movie was some kind of WTF am I watching? Did it get better, I have to guess?
