^ Bron no doubt. With all his flawes, at least you can trust that man. I would sleep with one eye open around Durant.

i think the next cba will have this at the top of its list. i have no idea how to write a rule that's fair to players and owners, though. cancelling his contract would be fine with him. he's made like, 200 million and will get a full max offer next year. he could sit out the season if need be.

i wonder if some sort of reverse trade kicker in contracts above a certain level might be useful? there has to be some incentive to honor contracts, though. but it can't just be the nfl, which is a really bad deal for (most) players.

regarding the rest of your statement: i totally get why people were mad at lebron for the decision. i was and still am. not the theater, who cares? the actual choice to team up with two other prime superstars rather than compete like men will always grind my gears. all three of them just super duper lame. it's also had the downstream consequence of the superteam model becoming dominant, which is bad for the league in terms of competitive balance and leads directly to durant's hijinx. if lebron hadn't been forgiven by everyone the day he won his first ring in miami, no way durant joins gs. it set a terrible precedent that the nba hasn't recovered from, imo.

A player can demand a trade only in the last year of his contract. If he demands a trade prior, the team can grant him this, but his next contract can only be 50% of his current contract. The new team would be stoked but it would maybe dissuade the player.

the problem is "demand" really can't be proven, right? people will find ways to demand out without demanding out.

i wonder if there would be a way to use arbitration and blind auctions of a sort when a star is traded. of course, that requires identifying who's a star, but we've already attempted that with various contract structures, so...

lol, i can't believe i'm sort of endorsing popovich's trade commission.

It will be interesting to watch this all play out. I'm not sure how much more can be done but I'm sure the league is working on something. As someone who generally sides with players in these sorts of things since teams can trade guys for literally any reason, I think these kinds of demands are ridiculous. Especially given how things have played out with Durant.

yeah, i'm almost ALWAYS against owners, but this situation is a bit out of hand. a player just starting on a long extension asking for the removal of the coach and gm or a trade to one of 3 teams, none of whom are really offering the requisite pieces (boston is, but they weren't one of the teams named as a preferred destination).

i have more sympathy for players who have one year left on their deal. their team actually gets a chance to get something for them if their primary plan is just to walk anyway. but in durant's situation, the player incurs no risk at all for getting his way/having the power to dictate events.

wasn't the word today that kyrie is also still on the outs with management?

silver just needs to get this moving. talk to the teams that want durant and tell them to quit being coy about it, and make tsai understand that kd's value isn't as high as they've placed it.

The two biggest names in basketball are a disease to their own leagues now. When you saw Mikan, Wilt & Russell, Kareem, Magic & Bird, Jordan, Shaq, Kobe & Duncan, they all advanced and represented their league in it's advancement. Lebron and Durant are cancers. Typical of this generations self-absorbed, know nothing yappers whom wilt anytime someone calls them out for their buffoonery.

If I was Tsai, I would just keep Kyrie and let him walk for nothing next year. The most they are going to get for him is a single FRP. RW is a liability that he is going to just let walk next year and costs him millions more. He is NOT going to do this. I am not really sure how all this stuff plays out on their cap space. Do they gain anything from either of them walking out on their own next year? Not sure how the expiring contract works for them. They will have to right off next season, so anything they can do that would help them the following year should be on the table. If the expiring is not that big a help then skrew the trade, let Kyrie walk, but if they can turn that expiring into room for another huge contract, then they should consider it.

I would trade Kyrie for something. You can right now, get that guy out of your hair. Trade Durant for something decent. You aren't getting what you want in that deal but Joe has a chance here to really get the respect of the league and people like us. I feel for him having to deal with these malcontents. Nets fan base needs to back him up. League needs to back him up and in helping him settle this nonsense that has been going on with these players who refuse to play because they are weak minded babies.

The issue with Joe is he still has the worst of the crybabies in Ben Simmons. I have not seen a bigger p**** in the NBA than Ben Simmons. If I were him, I would package him as well with either Durant or Kyrie and just do what Danny Ainge is doing in Utah. Gather draft picks and rebuild. You have a beautiful arena, you are in New York, you will always have an audience. Try and get on with your life and build the team right. You were on your way before you brought in those two clowns so you cant say it isn't possible to compete and build without players like Durant and Kyrie or Ben Simmons.

I want us to pivot away from all of this mess and try to get a deal done elsewhere.

At this point, I have settled my head in rolling with what the team is now and finishing the 2022-23 season. I don't want to support any of these bums in anyway. At some point, your principals override the money and wins. Winning isn't even happening and isn't even guaranteed but even still, I've had thoughts lately on whether all this was worth the 2020 title. I am not saying I'm a 100% but the thought has been creeping out more lately. It's exhausting. Durant ruined one of the best times of the year for the NBA, let alone his own team. This summer of free agency has been abysmal. These players are all pathetic excuses for being professionals. My disdain for them grows daily.

I do agree that at a certain point you have to stand for something. I still value that 2020 title for a number of reasons, but can understand how all the extras wear down fanbases.

I think Durant has overplayed his hand and change is coming for the players pretty soon. This was bad for everyone and there will be consequences.

I don't really care about how the Nets owner looks. I just hope this situation somehow benefits the Lakers. For the most part, I don't really care about what happened with players on their previous team either. If they are committed to the Purple and Gold, and give their best out on the court every night, I can work with that. The arm's race never stops in this league, I'm down for poaching high level talent whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Technically, a player may not demand a trade. They can request one. Where did you see this rule? On a new contract it's 3 months after they sign or Dec 15, whichever is later.
There is no such thing as demand, a team must agree to the trade.
