it's tough: in a vacuum, huff's the better player. but gabriel's profile is what we need--long 3/4 who can defend in space (we have two centers and AD). but gabriel may not ever get there, and huff is basically ready, imo. so, yeah, i think i agree that i'd cut gabriel to sign huff. i don't trust bryant to stay healthy, either.

It's hard to gauge it just going off of summer league. Gabriel could have played in SL and looked like a budding star. Same for Reaves and Johnson. Let's see how these guys look in camp against real NBA roster caliber players.

    Agree on Christie.
Disagree on Pippen. I think he has enough raw talent to develop into a NBA player.
Yes on giving Huff a spot on the roster now. His timing is great on D, has a decent jumper, and is mobile enough as a 7 footer to complete against the other TreeBeards in the League.
I’m out on the rest of the crew.
Maybe The Real McCoy can develop into an NBA player after a year or two in the G League.

honestly, several smart folks whose opinions i trust think the same about pippen. i've just contorted myself into trying to buy it and can't. we'll see. i'm wrong almost as often as i'm right!

lol, yeah, my money says neither guy ever ascends past third string. again, super happy if i'm wrong about pippen in particular.

i just think he's gone as far as his scrappiness will take him.

I do like Pippen but it’s hard to say with summer league guys. I think it’s worth the effort to try and develop him though.

That said, I do kind of hope we can keep Huff around as well. I think he can contribute a bit.

I think they both reach 2nd string and Mac may have a better shot because of the athleticism and speed with similar technical skills plus the vertical component. But agree Pippen seems mature for a rook setting up the offense at least at G-league level.

imo, huff's an nba backup center right now. he can't defend in space, but not a lot of bigs can. he can play drop coverage, has great timing on blocks, hits threes, finishes lobs, attacks closeouts, passes a little. certainly worth a vet min. i'd give him two years guaranteed, tbh.

I think Pip will be one of those players that will get better over time, the competition will bring his game to another level. I think he will surprise some like Reaves did last season. Pip seems comfortable to be put in different situations on the floor, it just a matter of confidence that he can play with the big boys.
