Give Swider an open look and boom! On top of needing no space and being quick on the draw as needed.

Most guards shoot in the 30% in summer league historically. There are a few exceptions but that’s actually a rather normal thing.

Seems to me, and Cranjis too, so @LaVarBallsDad can't troll me on it :D, that Swider's our huckleberry. Someone that can shoot like that

[IMG] (wanted the old long shot gif of the ball burning the net on way through but seems to have gone missing @sirronstuff ?)

and is 6'8" and a reputedly smart player and not a twig, and apparently already getting better on some types of defense (Cranjis again) .... coming in off the bench against other bench players, in our expected better offensive options system ..... ought to be seeing time this year. All the defensive honks on the coaching staff should be able to make him adequate in that regard for off the bench usage.

Swider should be able to get off his shot in the NBA, he isn't athletic or has long arms, but he has a quick release, he seems to have a knack or feel to get a shot off, he knows his opponent will be coming hard at him all the time.

I’m definitely a Swider fan at this point. Kid can flat out shoot.

Man seeing a lot of Duncan Robinson in him. Can he stay in front of his man on defense? He's legit NBA player if he can

I'm looking forward to seeing Pippen Jr and cash money Swider play with the big boys in preseason. McCoy is balling today also.

Swider could have a Duncan Robinson meets a Bogdanovic type of future. I'm excited about this kid for sure.

Well we should have been 4-1 at this point but it’s pretty clear our basketball evaluation from scouts and front office hasn’t skipped a beat as this was a talented squad and well coached. Would maybe be playing for the ring tomorrow if Huff had been available the first few games.

I wonder who holds the record for 3s made in Summer League and how close to it Swider was. He had to wind up well over 50%.

He's going to get cooked defensively.

The goal is to hide him as much you possibly can and hope the unit he's playing with is so efficient offensively it negates his poor defense.

    yes.

    no.

i can't get there right now. robinson's faster off cuts and can rise up off the sprint and hit. swider doesn't move like that. and i haven't seen any evidence at any level that he can score in isolation like bogdanovic.

i do think it will be interesting to see how and when we deploy him this year. will teams respect him enough off the bat to create serious spacing on offense? that's possible and could be really helpful if we're having trouble getting the offense rolling.

i won't exhaust everyone with repeating my all my nuanced takes (!), but i've now seen the bulk of the games, and essentially my initial impressions are the same:

christie's the best prospect of the new guys, which makes sense. he's two years away, though.

i don't think pippen's an nba player, but i'm not sure mcclung is, either, so we shouldn't be too upset about it. be glad to be wrong!

swider deserves a two-way spot and may carve out a role eventually, but i still see more steve novak than duncan robinson, though he might be better than novak.

huff should get a real contract, preferably with us. i could imagine a world in which he outcompeted our two (good) vet min signings at center as soon as this year.

of the rest, mccoy and the other center (#50) interest me, but neither is currently an nba player (and they may never be).

I'm ready to dump Wenyen and give his spot to Huff. Keep Pippen Jr and Swider on the 2-ways.

Hopefully a trade will clear up that spot for us.
