You’re not gonna have Reaves and THT (or Monk as you’ll need that TPMLE for a big) if we trade for Beal, that’d be the only reason the Wizards consider it, so we’d have LeBron, AD, Beal, one other player from the Wizards to make salaries match I guess. So top heavy, any injuries and we are screwed. I don’t know why you guys get so star struck so fast haha, I’d much rather try to trade Russ first for multiple pieces that fill out the roster like Rozier, Oubre, and Plumlee. There have to be options like that out there, if not that exact one.

I’d have to see the actual framework of the deal as the rumor only mentions Russ and the picks.

There’s no way in hell Washington trades Beal for an expiring and a pick in 2027 and 2029. They could get an better deal that that for him from likely every single one of the remaining 28 teams in the league. Even if they were in complete “blow it up” mode I don’t see it.

you're assuming we're being offered those deals, though. so far, all reports are that we got stonewalled pursuing similar.

it's an interesting question. are we billy king dumb? do we give them with no protections and intersperse swaps like it took to get AD. we shouldn't, but if we did...they should consider.

I don’t really buy the media reports that Russ’ gigantic expiring contract holds no value. Valuable role players are trade for all the time for cap space. Same as I don’t buy that we are suddenly all in on keeping Russ after that absolute disaster of a train wreck that was last season and his insanely lacking in self awareness exit interview. This is all a negotiating game, a stupid transparent game, but it is.

Good lord I hope not, but then we didn’t put protections on the AD trade picks, so…

I don’t think anything we’ve got to offer would be at the top of their wish lists. Only reason they even pick up the phone is if Beal pushes it.

but I do agree it would take more which is why I said I’d have to see what was on the table.

A quick little dive into the Cavs after that Lebron and Love workout clip...

Love had a resurgence after a poor Olympic showing, Cavs were early playoff contenders until injuries happened.
They can afford to trade Love with Jarrett Allen, Mobley and Markkanen there.

Their initial point of attack was Garland and Sexton. Sexton went down, Garland become an Allstar.
Their other guards were Rubio (injured, traded for Levert who underperformed) and Rondo... would Westbrook fit into that hole, especially if Sexton isn't resigned.

They do need to pay Garland soon too, will they need the Westbrook expiring?
And we do already have a good working relation with the Cavs in recent years

He's emptying the clip and going all in.

He probably made a phone call to get an idea and it got blown out of proportion.

All good. At least he's inquiring.

I’d add here that I also think a lot of the deals being discussed involves guys with with very real concerns. Sticking with the Hornets, I can’t see a deal going down without Hayward. We all know his contract and injury history.

That’s where the framework becomes important. Who are we giving up to bring in Hayward, Rozier, plus whoever else? Could we use that same or similar framework to get guys like Dame, Beal, etc?

I completely get that we should be cautious of bringing in a guy just because he’s a name. But a name that fits, especially one without serious injury concerns definitely appeals to me.

i don't think it's a game. i think we tried to trade russ all over the league, everyone tried to rook us, and we realized that we may be forced to keep him. can it end up working like a bluff? sure. but brace yourself.

and i'm glad, btw. no need to throw good money after bad.

that was for then top five player who was 26 years old. this isn't that. also, the picks are now so far into the future that you can't feel like we'll be riding the wave of whomever we brought in. this is part of why NO put that option on the last pick they're owed--they knew that if AD were here and healthy, none of the picks were likely to be that great. but 6 years later...who knows what happens?

very real concerns that dame is on the downslide, and giving up multiple picks could be really bad there. beal's as safe a bet as you can get, but i don't see why washington considers, really.

my assumption in a hayward/rozier return is that we give up russ and nothing else. it's my favorite of the realistic hypotheticals, too. we tried to sign schroder for rozier's contract, and i prefer rozier to schroder. and hayward is likely to miss half the season, but for the half he's available, he's still good and better than russ.

A straight up deal would be great and I’d tip my hat to Rob if he pulls that off. I feel like the Laker tax will be in play and we’ll have to come of something even if it’s just some second round picks

i think we have some extra seconds, which is fine, as we can apparently buy into the mid-second round most years.

I totally agree. It would be stupid just to make a deal to “go for it” for one season and screw yourselves for the following two to three by being bogged down with bad contracts and bad fitting players. If there’s not a good deal where we get a couple of non injury prone players back that actually fit, we just “keep” RustBrick for one more painful season and try again the following summer.

    Stein rumors....

Not that we were seriously in the mix anyway, but it looks like Lavine is staying.
