I love LFR, but that was a tough reminder for me of how the Westbrook trade really screwed us. I’ll admit I underestimated how valuable Kuz was to this roster. He had his warts, but what a luxury it was to have a 6’10 guy who could play 3/4 and actually gave a damn on defense.

yeah, a good chunk of the forum owes kuz an apology for trying to ship him out because he wasn't the third star nobody promised.

not all the way through, but more anger over us blowing up the formula. we had the pieces, and others have emulated us to good effect. we emulated to brooklyn to similar (even worse) effect.

lol, frustrating that pete knows the FA list but can't share. will be worth watching his reactions to signings as they happen.

edit: glad someone still has respect for AD. i agree that he's the main reason FAs should want to consider playing here.

IDK..I should have left KCP out because he wasn't on a minimum contract, he made 8 million that season and he'd been in the league for a while. I also failed to add Monk on a minimum contract this season. I was speaking on the value of the youth we had on min deals, and comparing it to the Chip team. I also said give these kids another year under their belts and they can be just as impactful as those guys in the bubble were. It's not some outrageous thing at all when you look at the actual numbers.

Caruso was 26 in the Championship season he played in 64 games avg 5.5 pts 2 reb and 2 assist he shot 40% from the field and 33% from 3. Kuz was 24 that season he avg 13 pts 4.5 reb and 1 assist he shot 43% from the field and 31% from 3.

Reaves is 23 years old he played 61 games avg 7.3 pts 3 reb 2 assist he shot 45% from the field and 32% from 3.
Johnson is 25 years old he played 48 games avg 7 pts 3 reb 2 assist he shot 46% from the field and 31% from 3.
I don't know what difference it's supposed to make that Reaves was undrafted and nobody picked up Johnson . Nobody offered Monk a contract either He's 23 he avg 14 pts 3 rebs and 3 assists he shot 47% from the field and 39% from 3. I don't think we can bring Monk back at the min, but if he did return he wont get KCP's salary either.

These kids seemed to do alright playing with Lebron too, not even a full season of Lebron, and throwing in that "washed" Westbrook to boot! The broader picture about you can't win with a bunch of min players is not some slam dunk...Rondo, Morris, Cook, Dudley, Daniels, Waters, Howard, Tucker, Kuz, Caruso we had a bunch of guys at mins on that team.

pretty sure it is, though? who's won that way? even the prime lebron heat had 2-3 non-vet mins in the rotation. we were playing a stupid game with the roster last year.

I'm happy for Alex he got paid, it's unfortunate that he was injured, but playing with Lonzo, Zach and Demar, he found a good home. Kuz...IDK..he put up some numbers but I'm not sure what happened in Washington. They sent out Westbrook, brought in Kuz, KCP, Trez, Dinwiddie and some draft picks and end up worse than they were in the season prior.

We won that way. I pointed them out. The guys that made better than min on that team were Green 15m, KCP 8 mil, Bradley 4.7m and Javale 4 mil. So I don't think it's the contract, it's the situation. A player can outperform his contract and make more money later. The cap space situation will be different next season, I think we will pull in at least once surprise FA again this year. IDK what's going to happen with Nunn and Tucker but they make 5 and 10million, the MLE is 6, this next roster isn't going to simply be the big 3 and everyone else on vet mins.

right. that's 4 proven veteran rotation players making over the minimum. will we have that this year? not unless we trade russ.

Nike founder Phil Knight and Dodgers co-owner Alan Smolinisky have made a $2 billion-plus written offer to purchase the Portland Trail Blazers, sources tell ESPN. Discussions are ongoing with the Paul Allen trust that's overseeing ownership of team. Story soon.

Javale only played a few minutes a game and Bradley didn't make it to the bubble. Some of those other guys stepped up and outplayed their contracts. It's crazy that we paid Deng more than everybody on the team outside of Bron,Davis, Green and KCP. I chose to be optimistic about the roster. I'd like to see what we end up with before panning it. We don't have to trade Russ to upgrade what we have, we can trade Tucker or Nunn and get a quality player. I'd save Westbrook for the deadline if we needed to make a move. I don't want anyone's salary dump or injury prone players on multi year contracts to start off the season. I want to see what Rob comes up with first. We still have two of the best players in the game, if they are both healthy everything looks different.

See? Now if you could only stop rationalizing why/how absolutely bad he was last year.

IF monk will take his slight raise that we can offer over the mini-mle, we attract another good/useful player with this year's mini-mle, and nunn is able to play, all of a sudden, we have a few non-min players outside the big 2.1.

i'd prefer to trade russ for at least two useful rotation players with the benefit being that we can then salvage THT into the third one.

if we keep russ, my hope is THT is moved for a big who can play 25mpg credibly.

Every year there is a handful of vets that take the minimum who can still contribute, players like Otto Porter Jr, PJ Tucker, Reggie Jackson, Monk etc etc.

I think we could have done a bit of harm in maybe turning away a few of them with our performance and general disfunction last season. But that’s why I’d go the recovering from injury route; getting back Nunn and signing one or both of Warren and Ingles could be huge. In my opinion that’s 3x players performing above the minimum. If we trade THT for a big that would be 4 to surround our 3x max players.

There will also be other interesting vet minimum guys (depending on if they pick up their options or get resigned to early bird/bird rights), oladipo, rivers, mcgee, Gary Harris (can anyone tell me is this really a possibility?), Ibaka, Schroeder, Robin Lopez, Batum, Markieff Morris, Otto Porter Jr.

Big move! Portland were always a few extra pieces away and didn’t go into the luxury tax enough. This could help change that. It’s a shame they wasted Lillard’s prime.
