Phil is 76, he is not exactly spry. Amazing coach, a legend, but can we please move on? Get younger players, younger coaches and let's actually build some team culture next year.

*Has most expensive assistant coaching staff ever so he could delegate the actual work*

“you guys need to work on your free throws!”

    I’m thinking no.

When Kareem hit his 38k+ he was averaging 10pts per game. His pts had been declining for 8 years. Lebron was averaging 4 less assists per game than the bubble so to say his game plan had changed is putting it mildly. You can probably accredit that to AD being out so much and Westbrook being in so much. The simple fact is our FO screwed up for listening to Lebron and AD and trading for Westbrook. The fault is on the FO, Lebron and AD. Who got the blame? Vogel.

yeah, the game passed phil by years ago. he was pretty awful in his FO tenure with NY

but this was just a quote from lamar when asked about the coaching vacancy, so i highly doubt the lakers organization is entertaining the idea of bringing phil back. honestly, i wouldn't want him back in any capacity. i'm certain in 50 years they'll be bringing up phil's name whenever there's a opening for lakers HC

Thank you Mavs. We're going to be able to talk to Snyder by middle of next week at this rate.

It's not a good sign that Snyder's team always underachieves in the playoff and is now 2-1 under against a Mavs team without a superstar.
    I'm not sold on him

Maybe they'll go after Brooks and that will increase the odds of them wanting Russ (even though they still would only want him as an expiring)

At least we're currently the most attractive opening (for now).

I’m starting to wonder this as well, the Jazz are being embarrassed, he made no adjustments for game 3

I think some of it is roster based. I think Gobert at his salary and with his accolades is the second most overrated player in the NBA (Harden @ 1). He's far from a perfect coach. But he's in the top 1/3 of the league in a bad day... he's a top 10 coach and has Laker ties. Beggers can't be choosers.

We're not getting anyone better. Most we're linked to aren't top 20 coaches (Brown, Clifford MDA, Doc... no I don't consider Doc a top 20 coach) or have no record to speak of (assistants and collegiate coaches).

My position is whoever we get is a downgrade but keeping Vogel at this point wasn't an option either. Damned either way. Only upgrade is Nurse and he's not walking through that door without serious compensation (that we don't have) going to TOR.

The day the Jazz blow it up... in a week? I put a real 4 year contract in front of his face and ask him to sign. Don't give Pop the time to hold this up by debating whether he's going to retire or come back to SA for another year (important because Stein has Snyder as the favorite to replace Pop if he retires this summer). We can't afford to get Kawhi'ed by Pop. I also let Snyder pick his staff, only caveat is Handy stays. And tell him that Kurt will stay out of his office and out of his way. That's the only way we're luring any self respecting coach here and even then it's dicey.

this. and as much as i want to get an ime udoka or the next nurse or whatever, i just don't think you can do that with lebron. tatum and brown had to listen because they're still young, hadn't actually won big yet, and were floundering. someone shows up asking lebron to defend or play a different role...no way.

as for snyder, i also agree that utah's doomed because of gobert. i think ingles falling off a cliff and then getting injured really hurt them, too. btw, i don't think that series is over yet--dallas has gone nuts from three two games in a row and i think got to surprise them a bit with luka out (hard to predict how they'd play).

anyway, i'd be curious to know how serious SA is about snyder. if they really are, we should hire them. they do their homework on this stuff. if pop wants him as successor, we should want him. my concern would be pop kawhi-ing us in a different way: diverting our attention from his real target.

This is happening because, basically, he's the best coach available.

Buha talks a bit about the coaching search and weighs in on the candidates in his latest piece with The Athletic

5 years and overpaying to cover up some of our warts with cash? Not sure Jeanie is willing to ask for another government loan to do that.

There is not a universe in which I'm good with Mike Brown round 2. I don't care who he's watched, studied under, or what he's learned. Just no.

Rivers is overrated, Jackson sucks, and Stotts needs to be an assistant for a year with us before he pursues any head coaching job again (lol)...
