I actually thought your projection on his stats were pretty fair. I might bump up his assists depending on who we pick up in free agency, but there will definitely be an adjustment period for him if we pick him.

I feel that taking Russell is redundant. How much of an upgrade over JC he really is? On a scale from 0 to 10, 0 being difference between Kobe and MJ (approximately) and 10 being the difference between Hakeem and Kwame?

    Okafor pros
    - High floor
    - NBA ready offensively
    - True NBA center size
    - IQ
    - Consistent player, winning resume

    Okafor cons
    - Needs to put in effort defensively and rebounding, has tools
    - Ceiling? Tim Duncan is a pretty high estimate, I don't think it's quite there, but still high.
    - Conditioning
    - Free throw shooting

    Russell pros
    - Confidence/leadership qualities
    - Excellent, quick release shot
    - Great ball handing skills
    - Superb vision
    - Steph Curry ceiling?

    Russell cons
    - Lower floor than Okafor
    - Defense is a question mark
    - Inconsistent NCAA season and tournament
    - Explosion/strength. How will he handle NBA level defenders?

I think the thought is that we would be playing both of them together.

Not sure about that 0-10 scale, but there's always another way of looking at it: The Lakers are starving for talent, period. If they feel like Russell has a legit shot of being a bigger Chris Paul, they have to take him, and Clarkson should have no bearing on that. We're picking #2 overall. You take the best player to add to a bad roster, and sort it out from there. Clarkson & Russell will either mesh well, or we'll have to sort it out there, but having too many good options at a position is a problem the Lakers would kill to have at this point.

Take the best guy, whoever that is.

Agreed. The significant progress that Clarkson displayed was a result of training with Steve Nash Nash working with Russell will produce outstanding results.

    Nothing much to be honest.

Mitch talks about how much preperation was involved, bringing in over 90 prospects, and that it will take 5 years to really tell if the picks were good.

Bertka says that we haven't had a pick this high since Magic/Worthy, and that he's been with the Lakers since 1968 and we're always drafting low, so it's an exciting time.

dantoni would try to play randle at center and then ask him to shoot threes.

    i can't stand dantoni.

Yeah you'd have a backcourt of Clarkson/Russell or vice versa. It's actually a pretty interesting combo. I think Russell will be a much better off-the-ball defender than on-the-ball and I can see them really feeding off of each other in drive/kick situations or having one of them spot up weakside.

    Really really interesting.

Theres a lot of hype around Russell but he also seems to have more bust potential. Id just go with the safe pick and take Okafor

Clarkson would probably start. He was the best combo guard rookie last year (Payton is a PG)

Considering how much work Clarkson put in during the offseason, Russell has alot of catching up to do.

But Russell is still a good pickup with Kobe retiring. And his strength at shooting meshes well with Clarkson's slashing ability.

Wow that'd be the first I heard of that. Did she say he worked out specifically for us or that we saw him at a workout?

Could we have been blowing smoke about Okafor and Russell all along for Towns to fall to us? Yeesh this is too much.

According to this report the kid we brought in to workout against Okafor held his own and performed well. That's why people think Okafor's 2nd workout didn't go well for him.

From my understanding, she said we worked him out specifically in a workout.
