Yeah a lot of this seems like smoke to me. Follow the train of thought:

    1. Lakers bully Kings in trade offers. Kings use media to make it look like Lakers need to give up a lot for Cousins. Suddenly press release says "Aldridge to LA?" Kills Kings' momentum.

    2. Lakers like Okafor for weeks and weeks leading up to the draft. Philly high on Russell, really wants Russell, traded MCW with Russell in mind. Lakers suddenly think Russell is the better fit. Lakers love Russell. Okafor sucks, Okafor had a bad workout, Russell suddenly their guy THE DAY OF THE DRAFT? Hm...

He's got good size for a guard. That's all I can say.

Not going to be good in the NBA at least at first. Good size, but average length and athleticism.

Yeah to me that's even more smoke. Lakers threatening to take Russell. The Sixers leak that they've got better trade offers and aren't willing to trade up for Russell when they can get a "king's ransom" for the 3rd pick. It's all just chess being played.

My money is still on Okafor being taken as Mitch sees that the Sixers aren't willing to deal for Russell.

@therealdeal I recall you had Okafor averaging 15/7 as a rookie. What about Russell?

Yeah, thanks, I saw that too. But it's always been you take the good-great big man over the good-great small man. They're so much harder to find and come up with high enough picks to draft or cap space to sign and can't teach size and blah blah blah (that I believe).

Drafted 2nd behind Yao Ming by the Bulls, got in a motorcycle accident and ruined his career. Covers college basketball games now as an analyst.

I've liked Russell from the beginning, so if we pick him I'm good to go. When the Logo says a player is the best player in the draft, that adds some serious weight that should not be ignored. That said, I still would have my draft board 1. Towns 2. Okafor 3. Russell. I'm a traditionalist and always favor a good big over a good small. I would have taken Olajuwon over MJ in that draft.

The swaying factor though from the FO perspective is if we have a FA big lined up as others have speculated. If LMA has sent word that he is willing to come if we draft a guard instead of a center then I pull the trigger on Russell without hesitation.

LMA / Randle / Kobe / JC / Russell = a team that would be fun to watch.

Wow didn't even put those two together I was thinking media personalities. :D My bad guys.

Okay well I get he's now a media outlet, but what source does he have in LA that's better than our Laker reporters? None of them know who we're picking. Not to mention, it all comes down to Mitch so ANY source in the FO that isn't Mitch just doesn't know.

Seems like a really good kid. Cocky, yes, but I like the assuredness. Can get his own shot, can set the table for others. Really, I don't see anything not to like about Russell. But I do really like the size and post game of Okafor.

Well . . . drafting is really a crapshoot. You think someone's a sure thing but no one truly is. Still hoping for Okafor tonight, but I won't be heartbroken if Mitch feels like Russell is the best prospect. He gets paid to make that choice, not me.

Tough to say. His averages in LA would be way more modest than his averages in Philly. I'd say he'd be close to what Payton did in Orlando if he was given 30 minutes per game... I'm thinking something like 12/4/2 on 42-43% shooting and 36-38% from deep. Maybe? It really depends on his landing spot.

Would that team be much more fun to watch than Clarkson/Kobe/Randle/Aldridge/Okafor?
