Fair enough I tend to agree or at the very least they have strengths and weaknesses that I think would’ve meshed well. Though I suspect Vogel wouldn’t have been an assistant long and would’ve gotten another shot somewhere. my guy was always Monty though.
monty was my guy, too. lue/vogel was (and is, imo) basically a coin flip. if one was willing to meet our terms and the other wasn't, i was fine with taking the one. though i did think our terms were sort of dumb, and i get why lue felt he could afford to wait. that said, you can tell lue's bitter because he thought he was going to get the last laugh on the lakers, and he hasn't/won't. so he gets dumb jabs in at press conferences. lame.
I love Monty as well. Always have. He would have been my first choice as well although I do like Lue too. But Vogel worked out well despite some flaws. He got us a ring so complaining about him goes only so far. He was my third choice but he got it done. As mentioned by many no coach could get us over the hump these past two years with our injuries, at least not last year with AD going down in the first round. This season is still TBD no matter how many folks want to call it over already.
For the love of basketball gods, please start Reaves. The curse of this season will be broken if Reaves starts and gets 30 mpg
He's a terrific role player. Can you imagine if we had AC/Reaves/KCP in the perimeter? Today was also a learning experience for him, Klay gave him the business and probably a welcome to NBA experience. But all of this is good for his development. He competed hard against a HOF SG
So many great plays he made tonight. But take a look at this block on Klay that he chased down after he got past him. So this had to be off one leg, no way he could have gathered to go off of two for the leap. This should dispel the lazy notion he has “poor” athleticism. This wasn't even the max height he got .... a couple frames later his feet were a little higher but it was a noisy feed from ABC for some reason and this frame was the best of the bunch. His 3 disappeared for a while but it seemed a lot more like a mental thing than an ability thing I think his stroke is fine he may have had some expectations thrust upon him he was not ready for. I really think Austin can be 38% and D guy combo-guard to small wing size.
he's more than a 3 and d, as he can score at the rim and midrange and is an outstanding passer. if he can scale his game up at 30mpg, he's a borderline star-level player, tbh. how many players can give you all that? how many teams would like to get their hands on a multi-tool, two-way sg with decent size? again, we need to see it for longer stretches against better competition, but his price tag on the FA market if so would be in the 20 million range.
