His 3 point shooting is becoming an issue: he has a nice form and is good FT shooter so I don't think this is a THT/Westbrick type of situation but this is a problem right now for him. If he can't hit the 3 Vogel won't be able to pull the trigger to put him into the starting lineup
Yeah he is struggling shooting these last several games for sure. But that combo defense to offense play was something where he stayed trailing his man who beat him with the ball around a pick and caught up on his shot and blocked him and we got the ball, then sprinted up the left side of the court and received the pass and then hit AD with that high velocity shovel pass for the dunk was awesome.
I think in time he will improve his shooting. Probably hitting a bit of wall here in his rookie season but he still finds ways to contribute
yeah, if by some miracle we make the playoffs, i hope people don't freak out when he doesn't look great. the rookie wall is real, and he already needs to do a little work on his body in order to stay healthy with his style of play.
Rookie wall. Playing more than he's played in his entire life (NBA season is loooong) and against NBA physical bodies. He'll be fine. I still like him as a glued guy to most our important lineups. Even if the shot isn't falling, he's going to make the right play, hustle, and compete defensively.
Yeah his shooting has fallen off, been too many games where he’s a “0 for x” from the field. But yeah, not worried at all. What would worry me would be if he stopped pulling the trigger. Because I think he has good form and shows the potential to eventually become an elite shooter. So keep firing and push through the rookie wall, shoot with confidence even if the results are slumping a bit temporarily. He missed a shot yesterday (or maybe it was a few games ago), where he pulled up from deep on a semi-fast break and missed. Some might think it’s a bad shot. I don’t. I want to see more of that. In fact, feel like I’ve seen many times where you can tell he WANTS to fire, but turns it down and passes it probably because he’s worried he’s overstepping his lane as a rookie. But I think he deserves that green light.
my main concern is that because he's so much better than basically all of our guards, we'll play him too many minutes and injure him.
Stupid politics. There should be no way Ellington starts ahead of him. In fact, I'd sit all of the people below 6' 5" in favor of him. All.
Doesn't seem like he has to me. He went on a little scoring slump, but his defense, effort/hustle plays, and passing went nowhere. And now last game he scored 16 points on 50% shooting, had 8 boards and 3 assists, made 2 threes. It’s likely he hit the wall in some way, he’s never played this many games, and he doesn’t have an NBA body so he takes a beating, but he’s also 23 years old and not a typical rookie in that way, so probably at least more mentally prepared/mature.
I should've been clearer. I meant his shooting, he's at 25% from 3 the last 10 games. He's needed there as a sniper to space the floor, especially if he's asked to replace AB (who's struggling too)
