I think this team is going to make me pull the trigger. The only reason I have cable is to watch the Lakers. Everything else is available through streaming. (I do not sail the high seas for content. I think it's stealing, and it is wrong.) I'm cutting the cord. I see no scenario where I will want to watch this team for the next year and a half. And this is our team for the next year and a half.
Never leave your team. No matter what. Miss a few games to re group but always be loyal. Lakers have given their fans plenty to keep us loyal no matter what.
think he meant getting rid of cable. i ditched league pass this year because i felt like the lakers might not be worth watching, and i was correct.
Aren’t you the least bit concerned that the only season that AD has been healthy with the LAKERS has been the bubble season which had a rest period we are probably not going to see again barring a lock out? AD was fantastic that season. I’ve seen games this year where he is bubble AD but it’s been inconsistent. We have been an average team IMO with and without AD this year. The trade for AD was the correct move 10 out of 10 times. I just hope his availability increases as time goes on and he is able to carry a heavy load after Bron is gone. I think in general, fans show more loyalty to stars that show loyalty to the franchise. It was why I never had a problem with Kobe last contract even though it limited our options. My WMC is this team is a total cluster and I don’t see the magic trade that is going to turn this season around. To say I’m frustrated watching this team make rookie mistakes, is an understatement.
yeah, i'm concerned. but there's no way out of that, nor is is the result of a bad decision. russ is the result of a bad decision, and there's a way out. eagle leaving was a bad decision, and there ways to fix that (by being less stupid in similar situations on the horizon). but trading for and re-signing AD were no-brainers, and if he ends up being hurt the rest of the time, that's just s*** luck.
I cut the cord 3 or 4 years ago and have had no issues with sports. Particularly with services like youtube tv, hulu live, etc out there which still offer all the over the air games and have options for league pass, etc..
Are you able (or anyone else that knows) if you’re from the home Lakers Los Angeles area still able to get the SSN feed?
i've wanted to cut the cord but found that by the time i get everything i need from streaming, i might as well have kept uverse and the couple streams i use most often (same overall price). but that may just be me not searching hard enough. i actually have found it's the sports that do me in. if i quit watching sports, i could reduce my tv costs dramatically. clever bastards.
I’m with OX. But I’m a die hard. I’ve been watching the Lakers since Kareem arrived when I was a kid. He was my first sports idol. I’ve been a rabid fan since Showtime when I was a teen. I’ve been through the Sedale Threatt era, Nick the Quick and Eddie Jones era, Shaq and Kobe, post Shaq Smush and Chucky Atkins era, the Kobe Gasol and Odom era, and the broken Kobe era and youth rebuild up to Lebron. Throughout my late teenage through adult life I’ve always watched as many games as I can whether we suck or rule. I think it’s odd that Russell Westbrook and this squad would be so polarizing to so many when I’ve seen years of much worse play when we didn’t have guys like Lebron and AD to root for!
I think its cause Laker fans are used to contending for multiple years in row, winning multiple championships in that span. Plus we have Lebron on the tail end of his career, who knows how many good seasons we have left with him. Every year we don’t contend is a waste.
I'm not saying I will cease to be a Laker fan. I'm in my 40s and I too have been through the ups and downs. But I am paying 150 bucks a month to watch (on average) one game a week (since I can't really stomach anymore). I enjoyed watching the kids lose because they were kids and they tried. This team is different. It's peak AAU "I am above this" basketball. I'm not abandoning the Lakers. But why torture myself by watching a team that makes my blood boil almost every time I watch them.
Absolutely, to each his or her own. And if there is a financial aspect too I get that. I still like this team and think they might be able to make a run, and regardless of outcome I’m going to watch anyway no matter what.
We are indeed spoiled as Lakers fans and we expect a lot. I think we are trying to contend this year and so I don’t see anything wasted. And ultimately Lebron was part of the decision making group in putting together this roster so he must feel that it’s not a waste either.
That's kind of the thing. I do not like this team in terms of the collection of players. I have never disliked our players like this, even during the Kelly Clarkson years. I find myself actually experiencing some level of satisfaction watching them lose to a crap team, mostly because I never liked Lebron before he came here, and it's his fault we are now in this position because we traded/not resigned a championship roster (that simply experienced a bunch of injuries the season before) so he could get a dude who ANYONE could have told you was just about the worst fit possible. I don't even know if this is tinfoil. He ain't catching Jordan in rings, and even if he does, he knows people will still bring up his win percentage in the Finals. So he is going to try and add all time leading scorer to his resume, with the hope he can play with his son. We are the Lakers. We shouldn't be simping for any player.
^ People had great expectations/hopes I guess. I mean, we did have Matshall starting for us @ the 1, and he averaged 8/9, which is respectable. We also had this guy: People still remember him fondly. He started 162 straight games for us. There was also Chris Duhon, but at least he did not start.
