I would do that trade if we were guaranteed Lavine would sign an extension

would rather rebuild around Lavine than AD as well after Bron is gone. 2 years younger and AD has shown he can't be the alpha or even stay healthy.

they just made a bunch of moves to improve their team this year, and I'd say their approach is all in. Not much reason for him to not want to stay, and it would appear they have every intention to pay him the max. If he's happy, nothing is happening.

That ain't happening until we have someone in line to replace him. Remember that there is one thing as important as winning to owners .......

That's making money. Stars help make money, sell lots of merchandise and promote the team. Don't really see any chance that they will trade Lebron, just like they didn't trade Kobe.

Why on earth would you trade Lebron who consistently is the best player on the court for us?

you do it for the free press coverage

it would be good for the brand

if they said Crypto.com Arena every time they reported it, they might even cover the cost

F--- it. I'm going to show up at Crypto with my shoes. I'll promise to try my best the whole game which might be good enough at this point for the Lakers.

Yeah. Talent wise they aren't close. But with AD, availability is always the concern. You almost have to look at it as 70 games of Lavine or 50 games of AD with the postseason being a coin flip for AD even playing. It's not the most outlandish trade I've ever seen for that reason.

I don’t see any scenario in which Lebron is traded, and I wouldn’t want that anyways…

But despite Lebron still being our best player (and still arguably a top 3 player in the world), you do have to wonder how much longer he can maintain this production (although admittedly, people have been wondering this for a while and he just hasn’t really slowed down that much).

Will he still be good enough to carry this team on his back next year? The following year? If not, his very presence still demands that we go all in on short-term success, and his contract prevents us from trying to rebuild or develop long-term assets. And being stuck in the middle like that (arguably the position we’re already in), is one of the worst places to be.

Will be very curious to see how Lebron’s contract situation plays out. If he asks for a max extension for multiple years, we might feel obligated to give it to him, and it might handicap us for a while.

without the pick plz. same way i felt about the westbrook deal. we were already giving up enough without tossing a 1st on top of it.

Rebuilding teams love their picks though. I'd prefer not to include one, but the mysterious unknown of that future player can be an easier sell to a fanbase than a THT. I don't value them much for us because I plan on being a contender and there's no upside to a late 20s pick vs an early 30s, you're committed to a guaranteed deal. Also, our scouts have shown it doesn't matter where, they'll find our guy. First round. Second round. Undrafted. Doesn't matter.

So sure, I'd rather maintain that asset, but if the difference between getting Grant is a 2027 1st round pick, I hope we aren't squabbling over that with the worst team in the league.

uh...lavine hasn't played more than 63 games since his second year. i think people don't have a firm grasp on how many games non-AD players miss. must be a kobe effect or something. but nba players miss 10 games a year or more, and bigs who play big minutes tend to miss even more. but lavine certainly isn't the iron man you're looking for.

i'd totally swap our 1st for their second (ours with lotto protection, theirs with none or reverse protection). i'd even be ok with a protected pick swap. but an outright first is too much to give up given grant's salary (high), performance (meh and short of their expectations), and length of contract (he can walk in a year).

much like above, people seem to be wanting to sell THT low and not surveying the landscape. if THT played elsewhere, he'd be a trade target for us, imo. but he's here, and we suck, so he sucks. i don't think it's that simple. i think our big three have all been subpar this year, to a man. let's not screw things up going forward for guys that aren't getting the job done. we need that pick for luka.

LeGM’s not getting traded, but I would love to see it. Someone so sure that he runs an entire Franchise gets unexpectedly moved? You can’t script a more Hollywood plot twist than this.
Do you honestly think Cuban will consider trading Luka to the Lakers? I don’t think there’s a Franchise he hates more, than our beloved Los Angeles Lakers.

i don't think the pels wanted to give us AD, either. my point is we need to be able to make a big offer in a couple years. i realize that's against lebron's interests, but lebron isn't the lakers. i thank him for delivering us from the abyss. greatly so. but we can't mortgage any shot at roster building for the latter half of the decade in a gambit to make the russ trade work.

He either did that out of spite or to save on airfare, so he can get closer to the Lakers

Oh, I am completely on board with the “keeping enough in reserve to make a big trade” plan moving forward. That’s the main reason as to why I would have never made the Westbrook trade. Anyway, I would love it if we had a chance at Luka, I just am not counting on it based off of Cuban.
