I don't think Grant moves the needle enough for us to trade our only young assets for. Maybe, if we could somehow get back another player instead of or in addition to Grant in some sort of multi-team trade? For example:

    Lakers get: Hield and Grant

    Kings get: Simmons

Sixers get: Westbrook, Mitchell, and 2026 Lakers 1st

Pistons get: THT, Nunn, and Bazemore

    Lakers Roster:

    PF-James/Anthony
    SF-Grant/Ariza/Brown
    C-Davis/Howard/Jordan/Huff
    PG-Bradley/Monk/Rondo
    SG-Hield/Ellington/Reeves

Lakers have good balance of defense and shooting in that starting line-up.

I like THT but if we can get Grant for him Nunn and Blaze I do it in a heartbeat. He’s the wing that could fit perfectly.

I hear you, but honestly I would prefer to utilize THT as a mechanism to get rid of our Westbrook mistake, while at the same time add a third star that better compliments the big 2. THT is a bullet that we have available, and we need to make sure that we utilize it wisely.

    Re: Jerami Grant
What's with all the UCL thumb injuries? Replaced the achilles this year? Guess that's a good thing. This guy is out 6 weeks with one to be re-evaluated then. Guess everyone already knows that and the LB GMs are still OK with it?

If we are some how able to come away with Grant and Hield, that would be pretty solid. Hield as a lethal three-point shooter and Grant as an average shooter at best, but with good defense and quickness. Grant's defense kind of helps compensate for Hield's lack of it and vice verse. I could live with that.

I saw your multi team trade suggestion for Grant and Hield which included Russ. This year. You know that's not happening. If we lay an egg though by the end of the season and THT is still here .... maybe with Russ's expiring next year something could be done in the off season.

I still don't get the Buddy Hield fascination. The guy shoots a lower percentage from the field, and three point line than Melo, in similar minutes. He's owed 60 million dollars to boot.

Trading Westbrook is another pipe dream. He has an opt out next season. The only way he gets traded is if he's going across the hall to the Clippers, for George or Kawhi, figure the odds on that happening.

First thing you've said on here that was dead on accurate. Buddy Hield is slowly becoming the Kirk Heinrich of this generation. An overpaid C+ player that would make the Lakers instant contenders if acquired according to many Laker fans. The reality is, Buddy Hield plays defense worse than the worst defender we have on the team AND he is only shooting 2% better than our worst 3 point shooter.

Both of you are 100% correct on this one. That would have been a terrible signing.

i think i was on record preferring westbrook to hield, and the cost was fairly similar. if we dealt with the kings, i wanted barnes as the principal return, plus something else.

I need to see Grant after his hand heals along with more THT before being okay with a swap.

You can't just look at Westbrook v. Hield in a vacuum. Trading for Hield would have had ripple effects on the whole roster. What continues to haunt me through this whole season is the knowledge that our team would be vastly improved with Hield, Caruso, and KCP over Westbrook.

You need to account for volume though. Percentage only tells part of the story when evaluating a three point shooter. There are many players that shoot a decent percentage, but don't shoot enough to make an impact.

Are you saying Dwight at 75% isn’t really a deadeye from the circle? 8 shots keeps knocking ‘em down. Buddy who?

I'd take Grant for THT, Nunn, Baze, 2nd round pick(s).

THT might be the better player at some point, but Grant is the best remotely attainable high level fit for our needs and roster shortcomings on the wing. Grant is also in his prime and that fits better with our window to compete.

You have to also assume we're filling in those two roster spots opened up in this with buyout candidates... whoever that may be. With Baze and Nunn giving us nothing, then I think that tips the scale in our favor.

I'm not sure can come up with the best offer for Detroit though. Typically when bad players get rid of good, slightly older players they want picks. Maybe they value THT more than draft picks?

think kcp probably needs to go in a theoretical kings trade. not sure if trez would have agreed to opt in for that. but maybe he would have. and yes, we'd have a few more wins on continuity alone at this point. i still can't get over letting caruso walk, which was a totally separate decision, imo.

well, detroit owes a heavily protected first that is unlikley to convey until 2027, so they've got their own high lotto picks to look forward to every year for a while. can't imagine someone giving up anything comparable for grant. furthermore, THT is a cost-controlled asset for 2 more years after this. he's a 21 year old who's already a starting-caliber nba player, who could probably put up 15/5/5 and play reasonable defense tomorrow if given a bigger role, and who costs less than the MLE for two more years. that beats pretty much anything, including top-5 picks, tbh, who make similar money and produce less over the same time period.

it's why i'm hesitant to move THT.

grant lit us up one game, but he's shooting 41% from the field and 33% from three. he averages 5 rebounds per game at his size in 33mpg. he's graded out negative on defense the past three years. he's a better player than THT today, but will that hold? even 2 years from now? he's a UFA in '23. is that a good or bad thing for us? finally, he left denver because he didn't want to play the role we'd have for him. should that factor in?
