He would have LOVED this team. Melo and Westbrook wearing the purple and gold. Little brother Ariza. Rondo and Dwight.
Man him and Lebron together on offense is something; Melo's ability to post up smaller guys or hit the catch and shoot totally is setup well by Lebron's gravity/passing ability
Melo and Lebron should of teamed up and not Wade and Bosh. I feel like they’re games are so well suited as the SF/PF.
melo signed his extension for longer back then, which i thought was odd. i was really turned off by the big 3 because i thought it was unsporting. it would have been way better if they paired off and battled instead of ganged up on everyone else. i also think it hurt bosh's legacy while boosting wade's and lebron's. bosh was a legit star at that time, and he got relegated to clear tertiary role (though his defensive versatility helped them do a lot of things they needed to win). because his career was cut short just after that, he's remembered as the heat's third wheel instead of the franchise player he was in toronto. anyway, yes, would have preferred to see lebron and melo together.
and he gets horry-level credit for those is my point. had he and lebron joined up in say, chicago, that year, maybe he's still got two rings, but this time as part of a duo, more like pau's rings with us. in that analogy, he's odom.
Melo has definitely delivered the last few games. It’s nice having a guy who can just flat out shoot.
That just shows how vast is the distance between an elite scorer like Melo and a specialist like Ellington. Specialists need conditions to be able to deliver, unless we are talking Korver-level abilities here. Scorers know how to get these shots off and how to tweak them under specific defensive schemes and coverages.
agree that it may be a small sample, though i'm not sure you can blame westbrook for melo's 8% shooting from three.
I haven't felt as confident with the ball in a Laker's hands since Kobe pre-achilles. Can't believe I'm saying that about a 37 year old Melo, but he's an elite scorer. It's a master class every time he's out there.
Can’t believe I would ever be typing this but Melo has quickly become my second favorite Laker of this season.
Watching him with us gives me 2012 Olympics flashbacks, it’s been a joy. I want us to win the title obviously, but I really want to see him get a ring specifically.
