Anybody who says that at his age is delusional. However, just don't hedge hard, BYRON!. Play a more conservative style with Okafor...

Lakers are also trying to move out of the 27 and Boston trying to move out of 28 too... no surprise on either - both covet capspace

I'm thinking Lakers are going to try to use the 27th as a sweetener to get rid of Young without taking any salary back.

But if no one wants the #27 and Young has almost no value, then who takes that deal? I like Young, but who wants him right now enough to eat 6 million and two roster spots while giving us an asset in return?

2:00 Jah arrives at Lakers facility
2:30 Jah goes through a light workout
3:00 Lakers tell Jah they intend to pick him, start looking for housing
3:15 Jah leaves and everyone goes "wow that was fast! I wonder what that was about???"

How do we know nobody wants the #27 pick? It doesn't hurt shopping it and Young and exploring what's out there. A team that has cap space that where Young could come off the bench and immediately contribute while adding another young piece on a cost controlled rookie contract. I'm not even looking for an asset in return. I'm just looking to dump Young and this draft pick to create more space. No hurt in exploring options...

I'm not saying you can't explore, I'm sure Mitch is doing just that. I'm saying there's no such deal available. From what I've heard, the #27 pick isn't one that other teams are excited about. I've also heard that other teams aren't that excited about Young and his contract either. So combining the two doesn't seem likely to work to me.

I hope you're right, I just don't know that I see it happening.

Kind of what I was afraid of. I'm surprised some think he's totally undraftable though. I wonder what they know that we don't?

It makes sense for Mitch to explore the option of trading out of 27, I mean who wouldn't want to explore all options?

How about this? It's pipe, but whatever, I'm bored. Also, this is provided we don't get a max guy during free agency. No pick included. Get out of Young's contract, ship Ryan Kelly, and take on an 8 million dollar reclamation project on an expiring contract.

Steve Kyler @stevekylernba : "He seems to be their guy... so 95%"

Responding to the question "@stevekylerNBA Assuming Towns goes 1 what's the % Lakers take Okafor over Russell ?"

I've never understood the idea of selling picks because you want to preserve cap space. if you make a good pick, there's an excellent chance that at least one of the 29 other teams will eat that deal should you come up 900K short of the offer your big fish FA wants.

now, attaching a pick to move serious space (like clearing 4-5 million or more off the books), that's less crazy. I still don't love that, though.

picks have trade value. if you don't use them for that prior to the draft, then use them to make a pick, dammit.

That's a solid deal to free up cap space for next summer. I still think the 27th pick will be traded though, maybe for a 2nd and a future 2nd or something along those lines.

does kyler claim how he knows this stuff? I mean, I can guess okafor's the lakers guy because towns refuses to work out for them, and okafor is clearly the second best player in the draft (eat it, stat nerdz). should I get a twitter account and start sage-ing?

young for mayo makes sense only after the lakers strike out in FA on the first...let's say...12 targets.

in other words, I'd probably do it, but mayo's not much of an upgrade, and he eats 8 million this year. this year's space is more valuable in some ways than next year, because la has it and many teams don't. next year, pretty much everyone has it.

Oh, I agree. This is if we strike out this summer. Last resort. Plan for next year and maximize cap space next summer...
