I tend to agree with you. Whether we call Caruso a good player or a decent player based on peoples personal terminology is just semantics and not something to get hung up on.

He was good at a few things that made him valuable to us as a team. But I’ve never felt his loss as something that is a make it or break it moment. I don’t think losing role players is the end of the world in general, good teams have ways of retooling - this year alone we have added Nunn, Monk, Ellington, Bazemore, Ariza, Dwight and Melo as role players.

I’m also curious to see defensively how well people like Bazemore, Ariza, Nunn and Westbrook do. There’s been a lot of talk that we’ve gotten far worse defensively. I want to see how these players look with AD and Dwight behind them and Lebron playing help next to them. Also I think they’ll get a defensive boost from the coaching staff and our system in general.

"Sources tell me that Bеn Simmons has emptied his home in Philadelphia and has had his belongings all packed and moved out, and the place will soon go up for sale. The Trail Blazers and Pacers have lead dоgs in CJ McCollum and Malcolm Brogdоn who could entice the 76ers in a pоtential package. But neither has gained traction for Philadelphia. The 76ers, I’m told, asked the Trail Blazers for three first-round picks and three Draft swaps as part of a potential package. But Portland rejected that propоsal."

I guess that marriage is totally broken beyond repair. Philly is going to ask for the moon initially, it will be interesting to see what he eventually gets moved for. 3 first rounders and a solid player is a hefty price tag. Pick swaps aren't a big deal, you still have your draft pick, it does limit you some by not being able to trade the pick before the draft. I wonder if Kyrie becomes the preferred target eventually, if he holds firm on not getting vaccinated.

    Speaking of Irving:

    https://marcstein.substack.com/p/this-time-next-year-warriors-in-japan

"There is no indication yet- that the 76ers have an interest in exploring the Simmons-for Kyrie Irving trade being thrown around as the natural "solution" for two Atlantic Division teams facing major headaches to start the season. Reason being: It is not at all the obvious solution it would appear to be on paper. There is a belief in some corners of the league that Irving would retire, or at least deeply ponder it, if Brooklyn suddenly traded him. The 29-year-old is also a challenge to manage in the best of times and can become a free agent as soon as next summer if he declines his lucrative player option for the 2022-23 season. Forget how tantalizing it is to imagine Brooklyn adding Simmons' playmaking and defense. Does any of this sound like a palatable solution for Philly?"

Oh..it would be a big time roll of the dice for Philly no doubt. Kyrie is a weird little dude, but him and Embiid would be fun to watch. Actually Harden for Simmons would be intriguing too. The thing is, I suspect that the Nets owner, wants to keep a Kyrie insurance policy in his pocket. Moving James for Simmons is risky for them too. If Kyrie goes off the reservation, I'd rather have Harden.

Man, Irving has just thrown away a really promising career. He has made one mistake after another since he got drafted. At this point, I wish he would retire, so he can become irrelevant. He is a guy who just doesn't get the fact that his opinions even matter at all is because he is a good professional basketball player. Without that, he is just another bizarre human, like a lot of people who don't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

yeah, that's kind of silly. bet other gms leaked this, tbh. tired of morey negotiating in bad faith.

wonder if he thinks he's making some stand that will be remembered better later than it is now (e.g., kaepernick). feel like he'll get the worst of both worlds here: lost professional opportunities for a cause that's...not good.

There was nothing wrong with Kaepernick's cause. He took a stand and paid a price he was willing to pay. Kyrie's situation is different, it's a public health issue.

I think that’s what he’s referring to. At the time though it was very unpopular. In later years he gathered much more respect. Won’t be the same for Kyrie with different kind of “cause”.

Yeah Kyrie is walking out onto a very shaky limb here. It's hard to see this turning around in his favor, unless the medical professionals turn out to have this thing totally wrong. That just doesn't seem to be the reality of the situation at all though.

And correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't it reported maybe a month ago that Kyrie would retire if he was traded? So no need to even think about Simmons for Kyrie. But then again, this is Kyrie, so you never know what you're gonna get.

Not to make light of it in any way, but I do remember reading, that Kyrie has a bi polar disorder and takes medication for it. That could explain some of his weird actions. I'm not making any excuses for him, but it does add a different perspective to the conversation.
