"Marc is still fat. Trade him again." --Magic (Probably) actually a shrewd move to save big bucks on luxury tax. Anybody know anything about this guy? Is he any kind of a prospect, or just a random filler that made this all work?
Wow, that's a big guy right there. I hear he is strong and slow. Just like Marc. So, he'd fit right in, IMO.
He absolutely crushed it as a rookie in China. Played great ever since and is considered one of the most promising Chinese players. Currently his stats are 25.7 PPG and 13.9 RPG on 54% shooting. He's talented, but whether any of that can translate to the NBA game is to be seen. In my opinion, he could be about as good as Zubac - a 9/7 player who can use his big body to push people around some. You know, a role-player, nothing spectacular.
Kinda doubt he'll ever suit up for the Lakers. Most likely just a way for the Lakers to make the deal work without bringing on any additional salary.
Yep, doubt he ever sees the court as a Laker. More likely they cleared to roster spot for someone like Ennis.
Posted this in the Player Transactions thread, but looks like it's from 2013. https://www.nbadraft.net/players/wang-zhelin/ One part that sticks out, and something this forum would appreciate: "Wang Zhelin has proven himself quickly after a terrific first CBA season. However, Yao Ming comparisons should stop at his thick legs."
Pros: Decent handles for a big man with a knack for finishing around the rim. Fairly decent shot/stroke as well. Nice post/face-up arsenal Cons: Unathletic and lumbering making him easier to defend using smaller players. No vertical at all and as big as he is has a hard time using his weight to plow thru smaller defenders in order to make space to get his shots off. Slow footwork, already 27 years old and hasn't made any forward steps towards playing in the league. Misses tons of freethrows and shot .28% from 3. My take is he would only be available to play garbage minutes if he were to ever make an NBA roster. The speed and athleticism of our league would overwhelm him and his inability to dominate smaller players in china where our smaller players are that much better let alone our big men. He'll never make a team in the NBA
He can kind of finish around the rim, but when he gets fouled, he just gives up entirely instead of going for the and 1. So frustrating to watch. The free throwing is atrocious. Really, it's just so bad. Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman could mentor him. I watched most of his 51-point highlight. It was the most underwhelming 51 points I've ever seen in my life--so bad I had to shut it off. He only averages 20ppg because he's taller than everyone else. Otherwise he simply brings nothing except he can decently run the floor for a 7-footer which is an automatic paycheck. I was gonna give him a chance but after watching most of that highlight, forget it. He's not seeing an NBA minute except for a desperate team.
