beat me to it. people moan about AD and pine over embiid, who's MUCH less reliable.

i've also said on several occasions now that simmons is getting quite underrated because of a bad playoff series.

i also think nobody's tried to build a team that caters to simmons's strengths. if i were a bad team like sacramento, i'd give up a lot to get him (fox, tbh) and commit to building a team that suits his abilities. it's not common to have a guy with that kind of defensive versatility who is also a point forward on offense (and not a top of key point forward like draymond, a lead-the-break point forward like magic).

simmons needs the lane open and a team that can run and shoot. philly's like, none of those things.

we would have lost a couple playoff series if we didn't switch him to the five, though.

i don't see how playing 20mpg, largely against backup centers (who are generally AD's size or smaller), is some great toll. starting games and playing against steven adams or valanciunas or whatever, of course. but if you stagger subs to keep AD at the 5 against the other team's smaller options, i think you run away with more games than we currently do.

again, dirk nowitzki essentially closed halves at the 5 for a good chunk of his career, and he was maybe a little lighter than AD. this is the kind of usage i'm talking about. i want to know why he's opposed to that. he should only start games at center in the playoffs against smallball teams.

No doubt Embiid is better currently (and probably for the future too). But if he is gonna be injured all the time, you aren’t going to win anything anyway.

I also find Simmons to be an intriguing prospect. He does a lot of things really well, his defensive ability is really impressive, he is a legitimate Swiss Army knife on that end who can just about slow anyone down. And his passing and transition ability is super intriguing, surround him with good shooters and he could average 20/10/10/2/2.

GSW would be a great situation for him. Two all time shooters, another defensive Swiss knife who can pass. If they could get one more 3&D wing, they’d be a real contender and a hard out for anyone. They’d match up really well with us and the Nets. Hide Steph, Green on Harden, Simmons on Durant, Klay on Irving and Igoudala/Porter/Poole can chase Joe Harris around.

Against us Green on AD, Simmons on Lebron, Klay on Westbrook.

    sshhh...stop telling them.

also, i wouldn't accept wiggins and gs's recent picks for simmons if i were morey. i'd be asking for green or thompson as the centerpiece.

Could Brooklyn pay him anymore than minimum?

Solid move for them. He can still play. His shot for 3 isn't great, but I think he'll be good for the Nets.

Fox is a decent piece of the pie but he's not a star you build around and Simmons has more overall value to him although I wouldn't grade him out as a star either. I totally agree, trading fox for Simmons in this case makes much more sense for Sac.

This is more of what I was getting at with AD at the 5 you just worded it much better. He doesn't need to bang with the bruisers, we have (for now) Gasol and Dwight that can eat up those minutes against guys like Adam's but I'd much prefer to see AD on Jokic then Dwight or Gasol.

just for the big moments in the game, imo. not just individual, but team d with lebron at 4 and AD at 5 is just really tough to beat.

either can hold ground in the post, block shots, challenge threes on closeouts, and switch effectively onto guards if it's forced.

gasol and howard can't do the last two at all.

Boo the Nets, this seemingly good move for them and your seeming approval of it. ;)

I get the signing. The Nets are stacking up names. Next they are supposed to sign LeMarcus Aldridge now that he has passed the health tests. However, Milsap plays the same position as Ginger Spice. Maybe the two of them will split minutes next to Durant on the wings. But their roster is super overloaded now. I count 24 if they also add Aldridge. Including Milsap, they have 11 players on their roster that are listed at either PF or SF. Where are they going to find minutes now for Joe Harris and Bruce Brown?

Exactly. In the end, there are only 5 spots on the floor for 48 minutes a game. This move will help them in the regular season, but 4-5 minutes from Paul Milsap in the playoffs is nothing to get to worried about. I'm sure this will be listed as a "Great move for Depth" but at a certain point, depth is kind of meaningless. Rotations in the playoffs dwindle down to 9, maybe 10 max. I like our best 9 better than Brooklyn's best 9.

Milsap only averaged like 10 mpg in the playoffs there is a reason for that. They’ve already got Griffin on the roster, likely bringing Aldridge back, and now they signed Milsap. There is enough minutes for all these guys and Blake is the only one that showed last year he can still play starters minutes.

Hit the nail on the head.

He doesn't have that killer instinct either and no you can't teach that. You either have that when the lights are the brightest or you don't. Kobes talked about this very thing over and over and I just don't ever see Ben taking over a game and winning it for you in the 4th quarter.

Perfectly stated he is a building piece and a 2nd or 3rd option built around a true superstar. That being said Moreys take on what he's worth is completely laughable. Right now this is a complete dumpster fire
