    Latest from Hollinger

    Ball
MIA trying to land DD for the MLE and Nunn is likely out
Latest on the Nets-Wiz-Lakers potential deal. Could involve AC in a S&T, netting us a TPE
Rose or DS could be Chicago's backup plans if they can't secure Zo
    Spurs making a big splash
    :LLLLLebronlaughing:

Knicks likely stealing Fournier from the C Bags and looking at Ross in a trade (think he'd be an ideal player for Thibs)
Pacers trying to keep their FAs
Holmes might stay in Sac Town and try again next year
Teams think Barton and Powell are staying where they are
Minny could be a rerouting option for the Wiz with Kuz... or they could look at Gallo

Latest from Stein links us to Dwight, Mills, and Ellington.
Starting to wonder if the Mills is our MLE target because we expect to lose AC. IF that is the case, I become more comfortable with that price tag.

Came to the same conclusion regarding Mills too. Been seeing him connected to us ALOT the past couple of days and I think he's the Caruso replacement

holmes's market is going to be so bad that he'll take the taxpayer MLE to stay in sac for one year? feel like somebody would beat that, easy. almost any team could use him, and every team has at least the non-taxpayer MLE.

Yeah I really like Patty Mills, but of the free agents we’ve been linked to he seems more likely to be a MLE guy. And I don’t know if it makes sense to focus the MLE on a back-up PG when we have Caruso already.

Which unfortunately does make me wonder if the writings on the wall that we may not be looking to keep Caruso at the salary level he’ll command from other teams.

Although… and as much as I love AC, I could see Mills at $6 million ending up providing us much more value than Caruso at $10 millions. While we need Caruso’s defense and intangibles, sometimes it has felt like it may have made more of a difference if we had a more prolific scorer at that position (please don’t ban me lol)

Makes some sense. When I fill out a mock depth chart with minutes distribution, Alex ends up with 14-18 minutes per game. I am not sure if the Lakers will pay him 9.4 million or whatever to play such a low amount of minutes. If they do, then great. If not, Lakers could look to fill the back up point guard position with Mills. who is a much more lethal shooter than Alex. Lakers could also look to try to replace Alex's defene with defensive type players on minimum deals. Such players could be Porter, Ariza, Iguodala, Batum, etc. This is not to mention, THT's minutes are also expected to go up.

    i can't ban you, but i would!

ramona claimed today that there will be multiple over-MLE offers for AC. starting to think we might be getting a TE for him. yuck.

I got the same feeling. Mills and Caruso work together in a second-string back court though. But then, THT would have to slide to the three. Could happen though.

we don't have a single sg on the roster as of today. caruso played that spot for us a fair amount, and i planned on him doing that next year, too. mills can't.

    i don't like it.

I wouldn't pay Caruso 10 million per. I'd keep Tucker and sign another guard. Teams can only pay Tucker the non tax MLE over his first two seasons, and the idea that some team is going to throw a max deal at him seems crazy to me. To gamble 30 million per for the last two years in a max offer? That just doesn't make any sense. Once we traded for Russ, and resign Talen, I don't see the minutes to justify paying Alex 10 million dollars. Also if we do sign Gay and Melo, that Lebron at the 4 stuff is just talk IMO. Similar to Lebron playing small ball 5 when he first signed here.

the business side means you have to make hard decisions

Nobody would fault AC for taking the money since an athlete's career has a very limited lifespan. But with 3 max level players on the payroll, they have to think long and hard about that. He wouldn't just cost 10 mil, but actually 10 mil plus whatever penalty for being repeat luxury tax offender right? That's some serious dough.

do you want to win or not, though? save money when you're bad. we're good right now, and AC's contract won't hinder roster building.

we sure as hell won't be able to replace him in FA, though.

It's not only that. There is only so many positions and time for a player. Sometimes you can have too many people that can play. Most need to play all the time to be consistent.

I think last year, that was the underlining issue in the end, as much as the injuries.
