Lowry all the way. This is great news as it means we are probably doing an S and T with DS.

I'd hard cap for Lowry too if we can get him for a S&T for Schroder.

And then what? How do we sign Caruso and Tucker and other free agents? Just to get Kyle Lowry? I don't follow the logic in that move.

don't forget how badly the kings choked that series

SHAQ shot a better % from the FT line than chris webber did. and i believe the kings missed like 15 FTs in game 7

i'll never forget that peja airball that could've won them the series and christie's 3 in OT that grazed the backboard

The FO can make moves in an order that benefits the team. You first sign FAs and then do the trade that hard caps the team.

Always disliked Peja, that airball was so perfect. Perfectly exemplified that Kings team when it came time to winning, weak minded, just like Chris Webber, always shrunk in the biggest moments, going back to that calling a timeout he didn’t have at Michigan. When it came time to win, Shaq would make some FTs, Kobe would make a play or score, Horry or Fish would bury a shot, but Webber and Vlade would get visibly tight, only player of their stars i remember having no fear was Bibby.

yeah, bibby absolutely killed the lakers that series. what a turnaround for them going from zero bball IQ jason williams to bibby. if they hadn't made that trade, the 02 series ends much like 00 and 01 with williams good for a handful of incredibly stupid shots every game

bibby was the only one on that team who didn't choke when it mattered

    .
The hard cap stays the same regardless. It will be the same 140 million if you sign the FA first. The math doesn't work unless you give up more assets in order to sign this one guy. And he's 35 years old to boot.

We rooted for Karl Malone. A lot of people never would have envisioned rooting for Lebron. We'll probably all get in line for CP3.

I will admit though, Lebron and CP3 on the same Lakers team? That makes my heart hurt.

yeah, i don't see us taking in a S&T unless it's absolute no-brainer for a star, and i don't see that happening. i suppose if trez opted out and kuz was dealt for zero returning cash, the possibility of an incoming S&T starts to seem possible, but now you're down two 25mpg players with zero return. again, better be a really good incoming player.

just a much safer bet to:

    a) not use the MLE or BAE

    b) use exceptions to keep AC and THT

    c) use bird to either S&T schroder or keep him.

thus, primary modes of improvement are taxpayer MLE and trades. i like some of the ideas i've seen about convincing trez to opt in, then adding cash to a trade to incentivize his release. everyone could win in such a scenario, and it gives us salary ballast for bigger contracts. all of a sudden, kuz and trez can bring someone making 27-28 million in. add kcp (i'm reluctant), and you're basically getting near the ability to take in huge salaries.

thus, in theory, the lakers could bring in two guys making a lot of money by trading kuz/kcp/trez and S&T'ing schroder. again, not sure there are great scenarios here, but it's possible...assuming you're ok with a) gutting the support players on the roster and b) blowing through the tax.

So, I'm like Rob Pelinka (I'm no Cap expert). I could be wrong. Here is a quote from a Hard Cap article:

"When a team becomes hard-capped, it cannot exceed the “tax apron” at any point during the rest of the league year."

That at least implies that signings can be made before the sign and trade that then imposes a hard cap from that point forward through the rest of the league year. Otherwise, how does your concept explain a team like the Warriors who are already way over the $140million line. If they trade for a S&T player, they don't have to cut everyone over $140million that is already on their roster do they? I read the quote above as saying they would not be able to make any additional moves adding any further salary from that point forward. But, if you can find something more clear, I'm glad to learn more.

pretty sure the received S&T can't push you over the 140Mish threshold. the trade would just be rejected by the league office.

Rob and Bron want a vet PG per Marc J Spears. CP3 or Russ have been tossed around.
