it wont help his shooting, he could play with gsw n still not learn how to shoot, we had one of the worse shooting team and bottom ranked offense and we want to add a guy who won't even learn to shoot a mid range...yea thats not gona work

also you CANT combine players in a SnT (i.e. kuz + snt DS).....if you dont believe me go and look up the yr gsw snt kd for dlo, they had to move off of Igudala contract 1st before being under enough of the cap to take dlo back in that trade

I would give up anyone outside of Lebron and AD. While we wouldn't have the sexiest package, we do have some ingredients that would make them a better team than they are with Simmons. Dennis can play, and his salary is movable. KCP is an option, he can replace Green on a decent contract, now they may not want Kuzma, but I think Kyle could back up Harris and his contract is reasonable too. A wildcard could be Montrez, Doc likes him, playing in the East next to Embiid might work out well for Trez. He gets to play for a coach that believes in his talent, he could play more as a power forward next to Joel, and the city would embrace a guy with his intensity. We could also throw in the pick. Not a mind blowing package, but I don't know if many teams have a young star they would give up for Simmons.

i still can't find that documentation.

i know for a fact that at one point you could combine S&T because teams were using NG contracts as filler to make up salary differences. teams were re-signing retired players to make trades work (we did it with aaron mckie, iirc). the league closed the loophole by making all s&ts have to be three years (with one full year guaranteed). but i don't recall them specifically outlawing the practice.

they stepped in on something weird morey was trying to do with nene a couple years ago, too, that was tangentially related to this.

I believe that you can sidestep that by doing it in separate transitions.

the league also killed those fake non guaranteed loop holes thanks to Morey, i have to no reason to make it up, as i said go to realgm and ask in the Trade board section they csn show you the clause. As you stated you havent seen any snt of combined players recently, there's a reason for that....i tried offering these combined trade scenarios in that forum and i was get the same n
"no go" response in combining players

then its not combining, we would need to move off of kuz and/or kcp $ for no salary back to be able to take in someone with a max contract

Moving KCP and Kuz for no salary wouldn't help because Dennis alone wouldn't match Simmon's salary. Now I doubt Philly would take Kuz, KCP, and say Trez alone. Tucker and a draft pick instead of Trez? Probably not enough either. Schroder has to be involved in some way or a multi team trade

think slick might mean s&t to a different team for someone, then combine the new player immediately, which i believe still has a 48-hour window. it's difficult, but possible, i think.

That...it would take some maneuvering but for a talent like that, it would be worth the lift IMO

in any case, i look for us to try and S&T schroder, even if it's for a smaller deal to a team with space. i think we'll want the salary attached to the player as much as the player (or more, depending).

Simmons would make us great defensively, but what happens when he has to sit the 4th because your best perimeter defender is only shooting 34% from the FT line in the playoffs? Shaq's worst and last year with us, he was 43% and the most dominant force in the league.

And let's not even get started on Ben's 3 ball.

If he's not dominating the ball because it's in Bron"s hands, then you're paying the max for a complete non factor on one side of the ball.

    Hard pass.

Hollinger ran the scenario of a Lavine trade for the 6ers. I think that one makes a decent bit of sense for both teams.

i wonder why chicago does it, though. simmons is better than lavine, but i think if you're them, you want both or just stand pat.

I would love to find a way to get Lavine here but obviously we dont have high end talent or draft stock, maybe they like THT?

Lavine would work. Damn, if they could get him for the assets we have now? Huge. But, THT would have to be be someone the Bulls think would be better than Lavine in the long run...

He has to improve his ft pct no doubt about that, but that can be done, Lonzo was pretty bad from the line when he was here. I don't worry much about the three point shooting, he can push the ball and he can finish. I look at at from the big picture standpoint, James will be 37 next season, we shouldn't expect him to carry the load as the facilitator, scorer and main off the dribble attack option on the team forever. Plus ask him to play great defense in the process, he isn't the same dude he was 5 years ago. Lebron and AD can close the show offensively, but Simmons gives you a lock down perimeter defender to close out games, that's a big deal too. He is 6'10 and can guard at the least 1-4, pair him with AD and that is a defensive combination unlike any other in the game. We could find vet mins to fill out the roster for two years, then when Lebron's contract is up, we have 40 plus million to chase a Beal, Dame whoever but our defense will still be outstanding. It's a longshot with our assets on hand, but I would make the play if the opportunity presented itself.

yeah, and there is no actual way to move THT to chicago for lavine, either. we have early bird rights only, so can only go up to the MLE on our offer, which would then require aggregating, which (as discussed above) necessitates THT going to a third team.

THT really isn't much of a trade asset, despite teams' interest in him. we're better off just signing him to our max offer (4/40) or matching an opposing team's poison pill offer (4/80, with balloon years on the back end). i'm still dubious someone extends a FULL poison pill offer, because that's committing max money to a guy who hasn't played much. you better really trust your scouts. and tbh, if another team wants him that bad, i think you just match anyway. when his big money showed up, we'd be clear of all current deals except AD and kuz. and we'd only be on the hook for two years of the max salary if he ends up not worth it. second year of that he's trade filler.

Don't agree with that at all. Put him with Lebron and he would change. He does have to improve his FTS.

I didn't like him for $16 million. I like him for vet minimum which I've already stated. As for the defense, sure. But Ben is an All-Star level player who can still help the Lakers. The shooting is an issue but if you surround the team with enough shooters and hopefully get the Klutch guys to help him mentally, I can see how it would work. If we're not giving up AD+Bron, what are we really losing? I mean, none of the players stepped up for the Lakers in the playoffs, either. We wouldn't be losing someone who is integral to the team. Some of you didn't even want Schroder... now he's such a huge piece that we don't want Ben Simmons? Kuzma? I mean, how many people here would like having Kuzma back next season? Majority probably say no.
