I know hindsight is 20/20, but wow is it remarkable to look at how terrible our off-season moves that were so highly lauded ended up being.

I forgot we gave up our first rounder in the Schröder trade. It was the 28th pick. Took a look at who was picked around there, Memphis got Desmond Bane at 30. I thought he looked solid for them. Having a guy like that on a rookie deal, and Danny Green for this one year. Wow that would’ve been loads better than Dennis.

And Montrezl... man I really love that guy when he was going. But when we can’t play him when it matters most? I got blinded by the flashiness of the move, but in retrospect there were much better ways we could’ve used the MLE.

I'd make that Dennis trade 10/10 times. Wes on his worst day was as good as Green (as a Laker, learned to shoot again in Philly), but for pennies. DS is a bum and I'll fly to LA to pack his bags for him, if he wants. But maybe... Hopefully he saved a little tread on Bron's tires. Gotta find someone to do what he was supposed to do.

Trezz was my 3rd favorite Laker this year. He gives it 110% every second on the floor. There's limitations and he gets it handed to him on some matchups defensively. If he didn't, he'd be a $20m a year player. No complaints from what we got from him in the regular season. I think we'll always be heavy with regular season bigs with the understanding and expectation that AD is switching to the 5 in the playoffs. So we'll go heavy with bigs for the 82 to save his legs for that.

AD switching to the 5 depends on the matchups. That is not a magic bullet, trying to play him at 5 against legitimate bigs, is only going to lead to him being on the sidelines banged up.He is a power forward not a center.

I think back to the regular season when he faced Embid and Drummond back to back, he had to sit out the next game with back spasms.

Rob underestimated the leadership and defense of guys like Dwight and Javale. Instead he brought in players who either demanded to be starters, or whined publicly about their lack of playing time. That 2020 team was special because they could care less about stats or minutes. They had a singleminded objective to win a championship. We must get back to that kind of winning culture.

    100% agree
basically getting any guy who could shoot and defend would have been better

They can't shoot jumpers or score in the paint, besides a couple of points. Pick and roll is what got them both pulled from games last season. They would have been on the bench in this one too. We just missed a healthy Lebron and AD more than anything. We had that last season.

Dwight was not a leader. He was a cheerleader and a bully when he could be. Dwight and McGee were the best cheerleaders in the bubble.

I agree there was much less chess involved last year than with DS, Marc, and Drummomd. But health is why we're sent home. Can blame it on covid, Silver, bubble, or Rob being a gambler. He played a damn good hand, but the cards were against us from the first turn.

I hated the Harell pickup and losing Dwight: that was a good call

OTOH I thought the Schroeder deal was a shrewd move and potentially added a long term valuable piece: was wrong on that one. Schroeder 3 point shooting bottoming out was not something I predicted (players shots usually get better later into their careers). Oh well.

I can see what Pelinka is trying to do with limited assets though: he has to make due with what he has

You keep KCP and resign THT and AC. Otherwise I agree
THT is the one guy you can see can be special and my god he's only 20 years old

Dwight changed his entire reputation of being a malcontent to put the team first and contributed in any way possible. That’s leadership.

Desperation because we're the only one that called because Boogie got hurt and Noah was as risky. And if he screws that up, he's out of the league. That level of fear will scare you straight. Not many guys reach that level of desperation. In fact, I don't think any all star (not to mention an 8x) or a DPOY (not to mention a 3x) has been in that position in the history of the league.

Tough way to end the year.

Dennis is my main disappointment. I liked that move but it didn’t pan out.

I still like Trez but I don’t see it working here for him long term.

I’m good with any deals outside of LeBron and AD.

    We still need reliable shooters.

The window is closing on LeBron. We’ve got to maximize the next two seasons and try to get at least one more title.

i still don't like losing dwight. but aside from DS's useless a**, i don't have a problem with any of the offseason signings

this team started out 21-6 before AD got hurt. 21-6! their season was derailed by injuries, simple as that

This team is uniquely bad at hitting the 3, it's like when one player can't hit anything the rest of the team follows suit.

I'm not sure what we should do about the shooting situation. We either go out and get "better" shooters only for them to shoot their career lows when they get here or we roll the dice and run it back with our existing "shooters" hoping they rebound and shoot better after a full offseason to heal and train, plus a chip on their shoulders.

Yeah, to be very clear, I emphasize the "hindsight is 20/20". Overall I can't blame Rob for the moves he made. They were very shrewd given the options we had, they just didn't pan out. We're still in good hands and I'm excited to see how he retools this summer.
