Jerry not a happy camper that Jeannie picked Phil over him as one of her "top 5" Lakers ever. I can see why. Should have all been players at least. Weird to include Phil in that answer. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/jerry-...anie-buss-list-of-top-5-lakers-202655366.html
Any list that doesn't include Jerry West in a Laker list is illegitimate. Jerry West was a great player, good coach and arguably the greatest basketball executive ever all in one life time. He IS the Lakers, from every end.
Sure, West deserves to be on that list. Probably over both Phil and Lebron (if Lebron wins another ring or two with us, I might argue otherwise). At the same time, pretty sure that was just an off the cuff list that Jeanie came up with on the spot during a podcast. Not like it was some official Lakers statement. So it’s really strange for someone of Jerry’s age to be whining about something like this. Especially after he had just got caught bad mouthing the Lakers so strongly during the Kawhi saga.
Bleep show he called us. Well at that point in time we were with what Magic had just repeatedly done toward Rob on national media with the backstabber blasts. And the Lakers hating NBA media piling on trying to bury us again.
Johnson, Bryant, Jackson, James and Abdul-Jabbar are all "personal" choices for her given that she connected with them as people. Jackson intimately. Abdul-Jabbar though was an interesting choice. Probably 'cos he has voiced being unappreciated in Laker lore quite a few times. Shocked O'Neal has been tolerant. Maybe because Buss hash-tagged him no hard feelings.
Kareem has had a habit of being a petulant child with all the underappreciated BS. If he wasn't such an ahole to people throughout his career, maybe he'd be appreciated more. You reap what you sew. Greatest Lakers should first be ONLY Lakers. Mikan Worthy West Bryant Baylor Johnson That should be the list.
Honestly, West not being on her list is laughable. Phil has no business being on that list. Neither does Lebron quite frankly. One ring might be enough for most franchises, but Magic and Kareem brought 5. Kobe brought 5. Shaq brought 3. West was the architect of several teams that won rings AND he won one as a player with us. I'd leave Baylor off simply for working for the Clippers for so long. My guess is West would be on the list if he hadn't joined the Clippers a few seasons ago. Top Five Lakers: Alex Caruso Carushow Bald Eagle The Accountant
Her list wasn’t “greatest Lakers ever”, it was most important. It was her list, I have no issues with it. We had basically the same team before Phil, failed to win a title repeatedly, he came, we won 3 in a row, he came back later, we won 2 in 3 years. We were on the brink of being a baaaaaad team for a long time to come too the way things were being run, if LeBron doesn’t decide to sign here that means no AD, no current chance at repeating and adding stars next to AD once LeBron retires. This forum knows my history with LeBron, I could not stand the guy for over a decade, but he saved this franchise from the brink, from possibly being sold off and the Buss legacy ending, it’s easy to forget how bad it had gotten.
Jeanie was never going to sell the team. The only reason why the Lakers had a dead decade in the 2010's is because of that rat filth commissioner. If Lebron hadn't come, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George would likely be wearing Lakers colors right now.
West, first and foremost. Magic Kareem Shaq Mamba Bron hasn't accomplished anything compared to Shaq. Both instantly made us a threat and viable location for free agents, but 3 is more than 1. Phil? Really? Might as well have added Vogel since we are listing Bron and his 1 ring. If anyone is coming off my list above, her dad should be added, but since she loves recency, she should've just listed herself.
this. i honestly don't care what west thinks. he's been actively working to undermine the franchise of late. maybe the clippers will honor him with a lifetime achievement award or something.
