since this is the optimism thread, i'll push back a bit and say i think the suns are very inexperienced aside from paul, which works in our favor. still, though--unfamiliarity can kill in the playoffs.

True, but Paul has proven that he can lead like almost nobody in the NBA. I think just having Paul will alleviate some of the inexperience issues the Suns have. Paul controlling the tempo with players that may just go balls to the wall since they don't know any better? Could be a disaster or could be dangerous.

seems there's no way to face Clippers in 1st round now, right? assuming we win our last game, if Portland wins we stay in 7th, if Nuggets win, we go 6th, but Nuggets keep 3rd so we play them

Yup. It’s the Suns or the Nuggets for us. Pretty good, I’ll take it.

So, likely going to be Suns, DEN/POR, Utah. I do not see Clippers beating the Jazz. They are a bad match up for the Clippers. Too bad, because I wanted to whip them in the playoffs in LA.

Neither do I, frankly. The Jazz just have their number this year and have fantastic chemistry. Can see the Clips pushing it to 7, maybe, but that's about it.

I think all playoff series in the West should be fun to watch.

I think the Nugs tank and the Clips take 3 back tomorrow.

    i completely agree with this.

I also think (or am praying) that LeBron is able to get this team on the same page fairly quickly and/or we can ride on him AD for a bit while the team gels around them.

I think the first round will be rocky regardless of the opponent but the team will look better and better as we advance.

We'll see how Vogel responds with everyone available .

3 keys to our success in the playoffs :

First and foremost :Lebron and AD's health ... I'm worried about their ability to defend at their usual high level ( particulary with Lebron's ankle)

2)Drummond shouldn't be part of the rotation ( likely will cost us the game against Warriors but it would be a good thing in the long run)

    3) Can't play Trez defensively at the 5 , if u want to play him , put AD or Marc at the 5 on D and let Trez play the 5 only on offense , Vogel has not understand this regardless of the injuries all season long

PS : McLemore can't be part of a playoffs rotation too

I think LBJ/AD look great, and it seems to me Vogel has several different types of (good) players to play alongside them, at every position. Vogel can create lineups for nearly any team out there.

I think the rest of the league is screwed.

What stood out to me about the Pacers game was that I saw a little bit of 2020 playoffs KCP out there, where he played with speed, defensive intensity, and a confident shot.

I can’t over emphasize how important him playing to his ceiling contributed to that championship. We need that again because that unlocks so much spacing offensively and is key to our defense.

he's good at chasing around pgs on defense, but we don't use it a lot--in part because when lebron's out, we have to run schroder or caruso, and each is best suited to guard pgs (though AC can do sgs, too).
