Davis is an option. It just depends at what price point, but he is going to command less money on the market than Chandler, so going in that direction might not be such a bad idea. I'll say this, though. We have to so many holes to fill. I think Mitch will do his best to fill most of the holes we have; but I'd still expect an incomplete roster with the amount of holes we have; that said, if I know Mitch, he'll do his best to construct a roster that will compete for the 8th seed.
I'd take the risk on Chandler, especially if we draft Upshaw. His tutelage would we invaluable. Clarkson/Wright Kobe/Young/Ellington Randle/Green Towns/Black/Kelly Chandler/Upshaw Try to score on a lineup of Wright Clarkson Green Towns Upshaw
The thing is, we are drafting Okafor, and Chandler can't play the 4 next to him. Time for you to make the mental adjustment and start team building around the mighty OK-afor!
You need dream therapy! I was the conductor on the Towns train, but that baby is derailed, and Okafor is the new high speed rail system. Gotta get with the times!
If we get Okafor, I want no part of Chandler at any cost. Okafor is a guy who will play 20-25 minutes a night as a rookie. We need Ed Davis back if we draft Okafor.
Here's a fun fact relating to the Payne workout: his agency also represents Jimmy Butler. Makes more sense now.
Because there was no chance of Payne going at 2 or 27. Just from the workouts with LA and NY, I've seen a few places that have moved him up two slots in their mocks. It gets people talking about him. Mitch might have gotten the opportunity to talk to his agent about Butler and these things will likely be remembered come the opening bell of free agency. Could mean the difference in having the first meeting with Butler instead of the third meeting, even though the ball is ultimately in Chicago's court.
Perhaps a sign and trade that includes the 27th + Young and additional assets for the rights to Butler.
Good eye man. That's probably at play here. Chicago will match any offer but I wouldn't be surprised if we made the effort.
If such a thing happened, we at Lakersball should have a 20 foot statue of Mitch Kupchak commissioned to be placed outside the Lakers' new practice facility.
Yeah. Chicago fans are already pissed about Thibs. Can you imagine the outrage if they let Butler walk for like the 27th and 34th pick in the draft? Not only does Chicago get boned, but it would essentially provide a major building block to what might turn into a Laker juggernaut.
In a sign and trade for Butler Chicago would look like absolute idiots if they didn't get back at least ONE of #2, Randle, or Clarkson... I can't imagine they'd even entertain #27/#34 and our other pieces... I just figure we'd throw a max deal at him at midnight and wait the three days for Chicago to match.
I'd throw a Max Deal at Butler in a heartbeat.. I just can't imagine Chicago letting him walk though...
