To me, Tucker never was a home-run acquisition, I just thought he was an interesting option as a buyout guy. @Helljumper broke down that Hou is demanding a trade, and that's a no go for me.

I mentioned Tucker in passing mainly to emphasize that Whiteside is a no for me. He's a bonehead.

Whiteside is a bonehead and I hate the guy but with what I've seen from Marc, it ain't gonna work. He's too slow and gets ZERO easy shots. Every time he has the ball, it's an attempt to cut to the basket or a dumb fadeaway. Not exactly a lot of options there. And I like Tucker but this guy is 36 this season. The wheels are feeling apart.

i think lakers as is when everyone is healthy, only needs an athletic big. everything else is fine. let them figure it out and if anything just be healthy when playoffs arrive. team literally only had like a month off.

The majority of Marc’s shots are 3 pointers which he is making over 36%. He doesn’t take a lot of shots overall of course, only 3.6 attempts a game but 2.3 attempts are 3’s.

This is where I disagree also. I don't think we need a replacement for Marc, just a proper substitute at center. In the beginning of the season, I loved the Gasol & Harrell acquisition, and still do. But I never subscribed to the idea that Harrell is a center, but I guess the Lakers FO did. Marc needs minutes, just less of them at this stage of his career.

LeBron loves playing with Marc. LeBron is giddy to play with anyone who has a high basketball iq, like Rondo. Whiteside is the literal opposite of these kinds of players. Inconsistent effort and not even that intelligent when he's on. It took Kuzma 2 years and a championship to finally earn LeBron's respect. We can't plug just anyone on this team.

If he wants minutes, we're not in consideration. I could see him end up with Boston.

I want no part of Whiteside. He makes JR and Waiters seem smart. He's bad for locker rooms to boot. I'd rather have Dedmon, Thon, Faried, or Henson. I guarantee better will be on the buyout market too.

That's the guy the Lakers need. They need a garbage man next to Trez.

Boogie won't solve our interior defense issues, and the sooner we all face this team as currently constructed is not going to repeat, the better.

we need to take the gamble on Whiteside, if nothing else can be done.

Cousins is basically Marc Gasol at this point.

    lol. c'mon.

except worse at almost everything? before we got gasol, i said i hoped we might try to keep cousins around and maybe he could be a poor man's gasol. he puts up bigger numbers but not in ways that help his team win.

again, lots of talk of whitesides, cousins, even drummonds...but those guys have never helped anyone win. there's a reason.

i'm willing to grant that drummond hasn't had a great chance yet in his career, but it's troubling that he stats it up while his teams lose and that his teams don't seem to broken up about moving on from him.

the lakers need a glue-guy big man. another gasol, really. but there aren't any.

anyway, AD/gasol/trez is enough bigs for any playoff series assuming all are healthy. especially when you have lebron and kuz and morris who can play minutes at the 4 against most teams.

I disagree, Cousins is superior to Gasol in just about everything. The guy Marc was 4-5 years ago was great. Not this version we have. I also don't worry much about what guys did in other places, on the strength of that thinking...Javale, Dwight and Rondo were bad ideas too.
A different fit on a different team makes a players situation different.

    based on what, exactly?

    https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/couside01.html

    https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gasolma01.html

dwight was good in other places, too. or about the same as here. same with rondo and mcgee, actually. there was a weird illusion that they were great here and bad elsewhere, but it's not supported by any objective data.

if your claim is based on off-court stuff, ok. all those guys had issues at other stops and not so much here, so maybe our leadership/organizational culture is strong enough to handle a knucklehead (though miami couldn't manage whiteside, and one could argue they're like the lakers in terms of organizational strength).

anyway, rondo/howard/mcgee had all played small roles on decent teams (howard and rondo played big roles on very good teams for many years). the names being bandied about here can't make those claims.

That's irrelevant because it's only a few attempts, if it 6-7 attempts at that clip, it would be an entirely different situation.

Dwight has played for almost half the league, Javale has bounced around a lot, Rondo said the only reason that he signed with the Lakers in 19 was they offered him the most money, and he felt that GMs were trying to force him out of the league.

My point is they still had value as players, because teams still signed them. That's the exact same scenario for guys like Whiteside or Cousins, they have value. Whatever didn't work out for them elsewhere is irrelevant to me. This is a different situation with Lebron and AD.
