I think this is what gets everyone who knew anything about Kobe. He was just getting started. I had so much hope for his future. I was saying that someday, people would look back on his life and say, can you believe he use to play in the NBA!?!? I think his second act was going to be great and it was going to blow people away. This is what is sad for me.
Of course Kobe knew how badly you wanted to beat him, Shane. You were the one a-hole in the league that risked poking him in the eyes literally on his Js when you could. It was pretty amazing really. Battier would be way out there on Kobe and get his hand sometimes covering Kobe's vision from 3-5 inches away and Kobe would still sink his usual per cent.
24 once bloodied Battier in the playoffs against Houston and did not flinch. He even once said that he was kicking his rear end going back to his Memphis days and onwards. Actually, Bryant considered Tony Allen THE best defender he ever faced...not "I'll pretend to him I don't care" Battier.
15 years ago today, Kobe scored 81 on the Raptors. Crazy how time flies. To me, it's the greatest scoring performance ever with Klay's 37 being next. Wilt got 100 but the skill level wasn't the same and I believe there were people who have stated that his teammates just kept feeding Wilt so he could get to 100 whereas Kobe's points came naturally.

OMG!!! This is about the Clippers' extended version of the pre-draft workout West gave Kobe when allegedly he said after only 20 minutes he'd seen enough. The Clippers had the 7th pick in the draft, 6 spots above where West had negotiated with the Divac trade to have Charlotte pick 17 year old Bryant straight from HS for them. They took Lorenzen Wright instead. Think if they had taken Kobe. The horror.
