    he delivered us from the abyss. i'm not sure there's a price on it. we paid kobe a similar % of the cap after he tore his achilles and was similarly aged, iirc.

    no. lebron may get hurt, and we may end up paying a shell of him a lot of money for a couple years. meanwhile, ainge will have dumped kemba for useful role players and look super duper smart while the media craps all over the lakers for being saps.

    but then luka doncic will choose us over boston.

    It's most likely 2022-2023 being a player option so this means Bron is basically just agreeing to another guaranteed year. I think AD wants assurance before he signs a 2+1 player option deal.

    someone was reporting it took him through 2023, so it looks like an extension on top of the full existing. i think that's they only way it can work--but i'm not positive.

    I think you have to exercise the option before extending. That could mean the pursuit of Giannis is over for now.

    Yes since it’s being reported as a 2 year extension and runs through 2023, it has to mean they’ll exercise the option after this year with the 2 year deal kicking in at that time.

    to me, the most likely path was always some sort of leveraged trade anyway, a la AD. it's hard to both contend and keep full mid-career max slots open.

    Lebron couldn’t really take less money even if he wanted. The chaos and vitriol that would unleash would be too much. From the Player’s Association side, they’d be pissed that he was setting precedent for players to take far less than their market value. From the owners side, they’d be pissed that he would be circumventing how they expected the CBA to be applied in order to form another super team.

    The player that is the face of the league and the best player in the world (which he still is, on both counts) needs to take the max.

    Sorry I disagree. High profile players like Dirk have done it in the past so that their team could surround them with more talent. Sure Dirk as not Lebron’s status but it has happened. Bron has been an iron man but he’s in his 18th year now and I can’t imagine that he is going to be the only player that Father Time skips over. Players later in their careers have and will continue to take less money, this isn’t something new. I’m sure he will end up taking less money to go wherever Bronnie ends up playing.

    Bron is a max guy. They look at sports owners as having a slave mentality and wanting to make all the profits off somebody else's labour. They want the largest contracts they can get so it doesn't stay in some billionaire owner's hands.

    The thing these players don't get is that this is not slavery or Jim Crow... you may be a billionaire one day too. Bron will definitely be a billionaire one day, if he isn't already.
